The Brink [of Madness] Act 1, Scene 1

A classic 2e Puzzle dungeon for High Level characters
Beware, this one is substantially longer and (IMHO) even harder than the legendary Tomb of Horrors!

Jack is unsure about letting the monsters prod and poke the trap. “What if it spews out enough… gas say to fill the chamber up over our heads? I’m happy to investigate further if you think it will help?”

"Sure Jack. Go investigate." Ke'Sha smiles eagerly. But he also send forth Rror, to look closely at the pinhole, and using the zombie senses he carefully examines it.

[Ooc] There are no 'levers'. There are handles the hatches in the floor, like a pot lid if it had a handle that stuck straight up.[/Ooc]

The half-rotting zombie bear carcass shambles over to the snake head, staring at the pinhole; nearly walking over Jack in the process. Gazing through the zombie's eyes rather than getting close, Ke'Sha doesn't see anything of note. (The zombie eyes aren't going to reveal anything a normal humanoid's cannot)

Jack is forced to wait until the bear-thing eventually moves out of the way; the choking stench of corruption even thicker near the creature. Once it does so, he can see that this particular trap seems to be a simple poisoned needle and easily bypassed. [would just need a successful remove traps roll]

Jag remains by the chain ladder awaiting anyone finding either a threat, or something that may need to be translated/read.

"Right. Please disarm it and let's open the hatches." Ke'Sha adds a bit disappointed. His experiments will have to wait...

Axid remarks "Ke'sha, how do you deal with the un'bear'able aroma of your minions? They could use a bit of personal hygiene."
You are talkin' to the holy symbol wearing,
Ruby ring wearing, kiss stealing; Woo!
Praying/healing, beholder riding, griffin flying
Son of a blowgun, and I'm having a hard time holding these Aboleth shoes down! WOO!

"Yes, 'Eau de Morte' is not my favorite fragrance either," the giant mumbles in agreement.

Jack wretches as the stinking creature shambles past him then sets to work…

Jack plies his trade against the trap, and without much trouble renders the poisoned needle inert.

Ke'Sha comes standing near Axid and lifts his arm so he can smell his armpit. "The secret is to out perform their stench." he winks, but aside from that he looks Dead serious. The truth is that the smell of rot just grows on you in time until you don't notice it. Similar to a closed room full with teenager male ogres after they ate some bad mushrooms.
Once the big snake head is safe Ke'Sha asks Gur to perch over his top and look around for danger and magic.
"Jack, can you trace if the trap had anything to do with the hatches? If so, start opening them. If not, go check the hatches for traps while our kind firbolg check the snake head functionality."

====================================================
(OOC: Maybe we asked before, but does the hatches or the giant snake radiate magic?
Also, could Ke'Sha extract poison from the disarmed trap? He has proficiency in poisons.)

[Jack already checked the hatches for traps and found none, which he reported. The hatches and snake head dpn't seem to have anything to do with one another. Gur doesn't detect anything magical except the party belongings and the chain ladder]

Ke'Sha hears his own memory corrects his current ignorance and accordingly says, "Ahhm... so as agreed, firbolg, please check the snake head. I believe it is safe to check it. Maybe it's eyes, inside mouth, teeth and the hand mark on the snake nose. Does it shows direction of the hatches, as one of you mentioned, or maybe it was guarded by the trap and can do something efficient."

Somewhere deep within a dark hood an eyebrow is raised slightly.
Jack slips into a shadowy corner to watch the proceedings until he’s needed again.

Allikhain, the dark-haired human woman descends into the pit of carved snakes with the others as Ke'Sha finishes his list of orders. Oh Ke'Sha... you get so used to moving your little animated toys around you think you are in charge of the others? she chuckles.
