Sunburnt is caused by visible light or by the invisible emissions of the sun that do get here?

I know that in reality a sunburn is just a mild form of a radiation burn, but if a plant can photosynthesize then a sunburn could happen. So would you carry some sort of natural sunblock with you? Can it be used to counter continual light?
