What Generation Are You In?

I figured we've probably disrupted Meph's Greyhawk map thread enough with our off-topic discussion on who is the youngest here, so I thought we'd put it to the test. Let's find out the exact demographics, age wise, of the members here. I'm going to guess most of the forum is comprised of Boomers, but maybe I'll be surprised. Vote and let's tally up the numbers.

Millenial starts at 1986 I think... In any case, generation cohorts are a terrible measurement as they are usually defined in US centric terms and there is not much agreement on when they begin and when they end.

I went with the years given in Wikipedia. While it's true there are no set numbers, most sources agree that Millennial is 81-96. I was born in 82, so I literally became an adult (turned 18) in the year 2000, the turn of the millennium, so I feel that fits me pretty well.

And yes, it's very US-centric, that's true. Different countries have different names and dates for the generations. But there's no global terms, so I went with the ones I know, as an American.

You know of different names and dates for the generations? I mean, from countries other than the US? I've heard of things like "the lost generation" or something along those lines for a short period of Australian history but mostly it seems most of the world assumes that the generation cohorts of the US applies to them too. I would love seeing generation cohorts from different parts of the world.

And well, wikipedia is great but not perfect.

Not a lot of them. I know people born in the 60s in South Korean are called the 386 Generation. And Japanese born in the mid-60's are called the Bubble Generation.

it seems in other countries the unique country-specific names are used sporadically, like there are few and far between.

There can be only one, and so far it is I. :mage BOOM!
Never heard of the Silent Generation; oh it is cuz they were so quiet.
Isn't the Lost Generation one of the newer ones? :newb:

Besides different names, I have seen where the years are a tad different sometimes. It's all in good fun though.

I was confusing them with these:

but nope, actually the lost generation are older than you, according to this you belong to the generation whose youngest women were my wet dream milfs when I was a teen...

Anything older than me is lost ... oh wait that was just my memory. 8O

I did find this through the link you shared Heg. The actual image is partially interactive.

On a personal note, in two generations, we cover four time periods.
  • I'm a late Boomer ... not late bloomer
My sister is three years my junior ... a GenX
My son was born right before the first STNG movie ... a GenWhy
My niece was born while I was abroad ... a GenZ
Getting back on topic, sorta, only my son and I play D&D. He is a 5E true believer versus my love of the old school. He knows about PADND but hasn't joined ... yet.

So far, Millennials are winning by a landslide. I had not expected that at all. Dang, does this mean if Planet ever dies, people will say 'Millennials killed the Planet AD&D industry?'

I'm fairly sure Cole is at least 7 years older than me, so he'd be a Gen X'er.

(Australian here) - Yeah, the stolen generation is a very different thing, and isn't related to these kinds of generations.

One that I do like though, which at least draws on Australian terminology, is the Boomerang Generation (one of the less recognised, sub-generations). I have several friends which this fits.

From what I've seen on other sites, I would think GenX are in the majority overall, with a reasonable representation of older millennials.
