1 or 2e. Turnin undead battles

Post by garhkal »

OK, lets say we have a group of 7 heroes (PCs with npcs), one is a cleirc-mage of a god that doesn''t allow turning of undead, one is a dwarf fighter-cleric (l3/4), and one of the others is a druid who was given a turning undead amulet (L6 power).
They are going to face up against a L7 evil priest controlling 23 ghouls and 3 ghasts.
Now by the turn undead chart, the L3/4 dwarf F/C, turns Ghouls on a 7, while he turns ghasts on a 16.
The druid with the amulet, auto turns ghouls, and can turn ghasts on a 10.

The evil cleric on the other hand, also auto turns ghouls, but needs only a 7 to turn (CONTROL) the ghasts.

I don't see anything in either the 1e or 2e DMG (or 2e phb) that explains if the party turns some ghouls (auto via the amulet for the druid), does the evil cleric get to 're-establish control'? If so, does the druid get to then try and re-turn them?
What of if the dwarf also tries turning?
Does it become a sort of tennis match, where the 'good guys' turn, and the baddie re-establishes control?

What if instead of being L7, the evil cleric was high enough level to have an 'automatic D' result? Or D* result?

DID this get addressed in the DMG and i am just missing it/??
If it didn't get addressed, how do YOU handle situations like that?
