The Great Classic Rock Thread
I am a Massive Classic Rock fan and believe that music has sold it's soul in the Last decade or so. Nothing compares with the timeless rock of the past. I love the Classics. Hendrix, Black Sabbath, Boston, Eagles, Dio, and my all Time Favorite band The Mighty Led Zeppelin! This thread is for Classic Rock n' roll from the 60's 70's and 80's only. Post and link any song and artist you like from this era here for all to enjoy!
This is Brights' Rock thread. Come and join the fun! Melt my ears Guys with the best you got.
For my first entry I give you the Epic Rock song "Achilles Last Stand" from my all time favorite group Led Zeppelin.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qnXh8mwdM_E

Re: The Great classic Rock Thread
I was a big fan of Led Zeppelin thirty years ago, but sadly, the legend of Led Zeppelin has grown larger than the band itself.
What about Chicago? Their self-titled first album (back when they were called Chicago Transit Authority) is brilliant.

And although it's kind of leaning more towards jazz than rock, lately I've been rediscovering Steely Dan lately.

Re: The Great classic Rock Thread
I like Chicago- it's generally considered easy listening.
I'll listen to the album in this case before I decide.
Steely Dan is definitely Rock in my book.
Thanks Stik

Later Chicago may be easy listening, but listen to "25 or 6 to 4" and tell me that it's easy listening.Brightmantle wrote:I like Chicago- it's generally considered easy listening.
I don't know that I'd call Pink Floyd "classic rock." It's rock, and Dark Side is definitely a classic, but it's really more progressive rock to me. And if we're letting prog rock in on this discussion, I humbly submit that Rush might be the best of the best in that genre. Rush 2112
Back in the days of vinyl, it was possible to talk about "album sides" as opposed to songs or full albums. I like to point to side 1 of Moving Pictures as Rush's best album side ever. Side 2 wasn't as strong, in my opinion, but side 1 (Tom Sawyer, Red Barchetta, YYZ and Limelight) pretty much includes everything there is to love about Rush.

Re: The Great Classic Rock Thread
I'll second that this is a great thread 'Mantle! Various Thoughts: I'll take Dio over Ozzy both as the singer for Sabbath and as a solo anytime. 'Don't Look Back' is, of course, a classic Boston song, but 'Feeling Satisfied' is underrated.
Stik, I agree that the legend of Zeppelin has outgrown the actual band. Gotta disagree about Moving Pictures. Yeah, the Camera Eye kind of drags on, but Witch Hunt and Vital Signs trump Red Barchetta, YYZ and even Tom Sawyer

Re: The Great Classic Rock Thread
yer, Rush is defiantly top 10 bands of all time. 2112 overture is what rock should have been founded on. Great Album!

I'm not arguing with him, mind you, but it should be noted that Cole is a native of Canuckistan.
His comments in praise of Rush, therefore, might possibly be government-mandated.
