Class based system or skill based system?
Ok, I know this isn't really DnD material, but I couldn't find anywhere else to really put it.
Which do you guys prefer? Skill based system where everything is based off the skills your character knows from attacking to hacking a computer? Or class based where members of this class have these abilities and powers ?
Personally, I can work with both pretty well.

I can work well with either. I voted for class based only because D&D is my favorite system, and its class based. Really though they are tied. I had to work backwards on this one to really pick.
I will tell you what I don't like though: a combination, where you have classes AND you have skills with skill points. I.E. 3rd Edition. That sucks.

Re: Class based system or skill based system?
I like skill based myself. My favorite systems are Savage worlds
Alternity(bonus points for crimsonkobold), and the Warhammer 40k
systems like only war and black crusade.

I'd have to go hybrid my self, Classes to guide the char. and skills or proficiencies to round out his/her abilities.

Classes at the core, skills to round out the character and set them apart from everyone else in the class

So -I was going to post my answer and here it is! I like a Class based game with a proficiency system to differentiate the characters of the same class. I agree with those who posted that D&D is meant to be class based at it's core. I would add that the various complications added to the chassis of D&D over the years in the wotc era have detracted from the quality of the game and denigrated the experience of playing it for me. The system wasn't designed to carry all the bloat. I find the new versions tedious at best and their skill & feat systems clunky. I hear that ( I play tested 5e.) things are about to change. I wont get my hopes up after what I've seen.
