Re: Maps, tiles, or theater of the minds eye?
I am sure you can do it with any image editing software. I use photoshop because I learned to use it years ago when I did a lot of photography editing. All I do is use the ruler tool. Resize the image so the 5' squares equal 1" in size. Lots of free image editing software will be able to do tha...

I load it into photoshop to resize it properly and then save it as Adobe PDF. Then I open it in Acrobat and print it as a poster. It spans as many pages as needed to print full size.

Re: Maps, tiles, or theater of the minds eye?
I mix it up quite a lot in my games. I use Theater of Mind occasionally for small encounters but I tend to do a very visual presentation for my games. I have four 3D printers so I never lack for a terrain piece and my collection is exploding these days. I also have some old wooden blocks I made year...

Re: Renaissance Fair D&D
Our local Ren Faire is quite large and runs most of the summer. We took the kids a couple weeks ago and my wife commented that there is a huge missed opportunity there with the lack of D&D going on. You have the perfect crowd for it yet there are no vendors selling stuff and no games going on. h...

Re: Best Wife Ever!
Maybe tomorrow her and I will do some more painting. My backlog is getting huge. I now have a Printrbot Simple Metal, two Ender 3s, and an Anycubic Photon....they are all going 24/7. I am printing dungeon tiles on the two Ender 3s and they are generally each running 24-35 hour prints! I have tables ...

Re: Best Wife Ever!
Well my Daughter has decided she needs to be part of the awesome also. She asked me if she could start mini and terrain painting with me. So we decided to start small....I gave her a Wizards Tower to paint while I painted a Kraken. Both piece I 3D printed. I instructed her on the steps to follow but...

Re: players leave, and their characters take cool magic...
My group generally keeps a list of "party treasure" until they decide to sit down and divide it up. Once treasure is doled out among the party, it's theirs. If a player then leaves, that treasure is gone with them. It seems from your campaign posts that you have had quite a bit of turnover...

Re: Sup suckas
Well either way it is good to see you. Both you and Thanatos are welcome re-additions to the community. I'll admit my participation isn't constant - but given the recent dust up I was afraid that activity would drop a bit. Halaster for as much as he was a blowhard, did stimulate a lot of conversati...

Re: Metagaming.. What counts?
That's a valid point Hal. Had you noticed afterwars "OOPS i made a mistake by not having it do Z, when it should have", and owned up the next session to making that booboo, that's one thing. But flat out running it differently just 'to go easy', then changing it up later? Somewhat iffy.. ...

Re: Metagaming.. What counts?
He never mentioned it was a 5E game. His preferred editions listed on his profile say 1E and 2E. I assume that as the default then. My preferred editions are most definitely 1E/2E. My group asked to play 5E so that is what I am begrudgingly running. Not sure what will happen in the future but for n...

Re: Metagaming.. What counts?
That might have been your mistake. Explaining to them OOC what they had encountered after the fact. Some players i know, seem to no matter what, regard anything told OOC to them, as knowledge their "Character acquires". Other players just hate the DM telling you "You didn't do X to i...

Re: Metagaming.. What counts?
I had an issue with a bit of meta gaming this week and had a player get really pissed at me because of my ruling. My group encountered an exceptionally large Black Pudding. They had encountered a small Black Pudding at the beginning of this campaign when they were much lower level. Because of their ...

Re: The allure of the mega-dungeon - why?
I know the 5E version of Undermountain is a sore subject with you, but my 5E group elected to run it after Dragon Heist. I know you have issues with the monsters/traps included and believe they aren't powerful enough but I will say my group had almost wiped out twice now. All that aside, my group ha...

Re: Re-visiting insanity
I ditched demi-human level limits back in the late 80s. Seemed like a pointless restriction in our home game that had no real effect other than drive players away from certain races for fear of capping out some day. Of course it was the rare game that hit those levels but it's still the point. Ignor...
