Re: Monotheism vs Polytheism
Overall, as others have said, I think it's mostly because a polytheistic world is more interesting. Also, I think it helps to detach it from real world religions and related matters. For example, despite the satanic panic, and back when I was in school (private protestant school), where D&D was ...

Re: ATTN Planet Members: Did you know ...
There's also a very active 2nd edition page on Facebook, with a fair bit of good discussion. it does sometimes get a bit bogged down with edition wars, but the admins are pretty good on putting a stop to them.

Re: Dice towers
I appreciate the artwork and craftsmanship of some of them, but I don't really want them at my table. I find they're just clutter and result in people taking longer to roll their dice than otherwise.

Re: Speak with dead, Compels the truth or not (1e or 2e focused)
That's true, but is it really a big issue? All it's really doing is avoiding the cost of the identify spell. Speak with Dead is a 3rd level spell, and if say 5th level party is willing to have one of the priest's precious 3rd level slots dedicated to that, then I'm okay with that. Alternatively, if ...

Re: Speak with dead, Compels the truth or not (1e or 2e focused)
There's a couple of relevant sentences in the 2nd ed spell description: "the priest is able to ask several questions of a dead creature in a set period of time and receive answers according to the knowledge of that creature" - this suggests the creature is compelled to answer. "Even i...

Re: Clerics and scrolls of other gods..
You aren't praying to a god to cast from them I agree with this. I've always found the idea of divine scrolls a little odd, but I imagine the prayer/divine communion occurs as part of the creation of the scroll, rather than at the time of using the scroll. As such, once the scroll is made, the powe...

Re: Halloween
We don't really do halloween here (Australia), although its growing (but also faces a lot of resistance as it's seen as Americanisation). I've always thought the idea of halloween lollies being tampered with would be only a slightly higher risk than any other food you may buy/give your kids - in whi...

Re: How many 'names' the same in your group??
I've had two Todds at times. There was a while where the three of us (I'm not a Todd, but my name also starts with T) were housemates and often played together in a small group of 4. Also the three of us (housemates) all shared the same middle name.

Re: players leave, and their characters take cool magic...
My approach to this really varies and depends on both in-game and 'meta' factors. The most recent time this occurred (with several items at once), the items which were kept and lost was pretty much a negotiated outcome with the players. The main things I would consider are: If there is a story reaso...

Re: Warhammer: Age of Sigmar
The only thing I know about Warhammer is the PbPs I lurk over at Unseen Servant. I think we have a 1E game going and a 4E game just starting up. I don't think either of them are Age of SIgmar though. Is that the newest iteration? Age of Sigmar is the current iteration of the tabletop game. It's qui...

Re: Metagaming.. What counts?
Was his 'social awareness lack' more because he was strange as a person, or because he may have been developmentally challenged? I think it's more of the strange person side. Someone who I'm guessing didn't have a lot of friends growing up/never developed the greatest social skills. To give you an ...

Re: Metagaming.. What counts?
Using personal knowledge of the DM to try to predict things which may happen, and/or saying things they think may be possibilities and trying to gauge the DM's expression to see if they're right I don't really see that as being metagaming, more than trying to "Play" the dm. Yeah, it's a b...
