Re: PC dies. What does replacement come in at??

Maybe the reason you don't see raise dead get used is that your players don't see a need for it. Why waste time, and go through the hastle in game, to track down a priest who can cast it, lose a point of con and all the cash it would take, as well as the risk of perma dying, when you can just roll ...

Re: Question about incorporating animal followers

Might help to remember your PC has animal followers because they understand them better than most people. They have a bond with the animal and know a fair amount about it's reactions and behaviors. They can also read it's moods and reactions a bit better than normal even without a spell. If you hit ...

Re: What do you track?

I went with "none of the above" but I do tell my players to use the simplified encumbrance from Skills & Powers. Basically it's a check to make sure you can carry the weapons and armor you want to use. Everything else is handwaived one way or the other unless it really stands out. When...

Re: PC dies. What does replacement come in at??

SO in essence you are playing a computer game with save points. Which is how i see it, when everyone has exactly teh same xp, regardless of which pc they play... A computer game save point resets the story. I don't do that. It also makes it meaningless to worry about even HAVING raise dead and simi...

Re: Revisiting Demihuman Level Limits

Math never lies ;) True... But formulas can mislead. The one caveat I would give is that in your examples where things are approaching a homogenous world population, the process is there and certainly has far more wide-reaching effects than we casually expect. But a homogenous world populat...

Re: Revisiting Demihuman Level Limits

Don't get too caught up in the specific examples I gave. I really only added classes because I recently sat through a several hour session of 2e character generation for a Dark Sun game. Three hours in people were still idly discussing party balance and trying to decide who should play what. I would...

Re: PC dies. What does replacement come in at??

I think part of the disagreement here is based on whether you think the player is directly and solely responsible for their PCs death with no mitigating circumstances or whether it's just something that happens in games sometimes. I'm going to run with the assumption that it just happens as "Wh...

Re: Revisiting Demihuman Level Limits

My biggest problem with level limits is they do not do what they advertise. Most of the AD&D characters I've played had their games blow up before they reached level 6. There is almost no way to reach a level limit by then. You have to delve into the Humanoids Handbook and play a half-orc, half-...
