Re: Need advice from 5e enthusiasts
Lost Mines of Phandelver is the best starting point, and is fun with multiple run throughs. If you're looking to get him an actual adventure - Storm King's Thunder is the best. I cannot recall off hand anything that isn't appropriate for children in that age range - it offers some great Role Playing...

Re: Another example of what's wrong with D&D these days
Hahaha, Jaded that cracked me up. And Halaster's response was great too.
My biggest complaint was that Kotaku should know better - Mordenkainen's Tome of Foes isn't an adventure its a supplement. ((Speaking in the voice of the Comic Store owner from The Simpsons)).

Re: Best Wife Ever!
That is awesome Meph, and indeed, happy birthday! I have a wife just like that - she makes treats for us, helps me get things prepped, and is understanding of the days when I have to take over the basement (it is a play room for the children most of the time).

I don't usually go that far lol. But I should have been more clear when I said "don't talk about sensitive topics on your phone" - don't even talk about that stuff when your phone is anywhere near you. There was a great meme... I'll see if I can find it... Here it is. https://pbs.twimg.com...

Re: It REALLY IS scary IMO
For what it is worth I don't think you're paranoid at all. There is excellent documentation from FOIA requests and other means of inquiry, as well as from whistleblowers like Snowden which shows that not only are these companies and the NSA collecting metadata on everyone, but that they are actively...

Re: Family woes.. Boo hiss..
Not trying to add to your woes Garhkal, but I don't think that sounds like Asperger's to me. I can't diagnose your brother from afar, and without a detailed history and examination - but I would seek a different cause. If your brother did well enough in school (despite his antisocial tendencies), an...

Re: Xwing miniatures game, who plays??
Garhkal, I have several friends who play - and co-owning three LGStores I can say that people either buy the Core Set + 3 (average) extra ships or just custom build a Core Set of their own from the start. Most people I know sleeve their cards. There are a lot of options for the acrylic markers - and...

Re: Strange response to a PM
The person may be troubled, or may really really dislike you. Either way - brush it off, and honor their request. Its probably a lot harder to be the kind of person that respond to a PM that way than it is to deal with them... so pity is an appropriate response.

Re: Limited Wish vs Wish - Discrepancy
You answered your own question. While you believe that demi-human level restrictions are "idiocy" the writers of the book did not. They decided that given the limits put in place, scaling the full wish alongside the limited wish wasn't necessary. Their rules are consistent. Your changes to...

Re: How do YOU Double damage
Gark, if a monster 20|6's a PC - and the PC is of lower level than the monster, or fails their save, they are generally killed yes. It basically gives every monster a 1/120 chance to apply a "save vs death" effect into the fight, or just a 1/120 chance to off a PC. Happens - but its pretty...

Re: How do YOU Double damage
On a 20 the character automatically hits - always. The only exceptions are creatures requiring silver/magic. Upon a roll of a 20, the character then rolls a d6, with the following results: 1) Max Damage. 2) Double Damage - (Roll + Modifiers) x 2 3) Triple Damage - (Roll + Modifiers) x 3 4) Normal da...

Re: 1 or 2e.. To train or not to train..
On that they "level in the field when they have a chance to rest". Does that give new spells to the mages?? Sometimes. Its not always clear - but yes sometimes. The idea is that the mage had piece of the spell, parts of it that they had been working on, which they finally put together. Ti...

Re: 1 or 2e.. To train or not to train..
Characters in my campaign level when they have a chance to rest. NWP's and WP's at their base levels do not require training. Specialization, Mastery, High Mastery, Grand Mastery all require training. NWP's which require super specialized knowledge (Sage Knowledge, Smithing, etc) may require trainin...

Re: Handling abandoned/dropped out PCs
I think I handle it most closely for Jaded - though depending on the character I might have them exit sooner than the next adventure. Sometimes they disappear in the night, with a note that says "I'm sorry, but I can't do this - I fear X and so must take my leave, don't think less of me, signed...

Re: So what truly constitutes an evil act?
I generally ignore the books on this. My definition of evil is: an assault upon the liberties of another through force, when not done in self defense or in the defense of another who is having their liberties unduly assaulted. It is a very libertarian view. Lawful Evil acts are acts which seek to sy...
