Re: Defeating the sleep spell.

While your method would certainly solve the immediate problem, I prefer a less heavy-handed approach to a solution. Yes, the idea is clearly meta-gaming, stupid and utterly ridiculous, but to call it that to the player's face might quash any future "outside the box" thinking/problem solvin...

Re: Defeating the sleep spell.

I would require the player to describe for me, in detail and in writing, how he/she planned to care for/maintain such a traveling circus. Moreover, I would ask for input from all the other players asking how they feel about the player having this freak show in among the group. The noise, smell, and ...

Re: Metagaming.. What counts?

This issue has always been a problem for me and some of my groups of players where we take turns DMing. Sometimes I get burned out DMing and like to take a break and play for awhile. It can be a real challenge to keep your mouth shut when you encounter something that, as a DM, you know what it is, b...

Re: The allure of the mega-dungeon - why?

And I wouldn't have the time or inclination to actually read through the freakin' tome that is the adventure book, let alone become familiar with all the maps. And latching on to what I said earlier, no matter what your DMing style might be, maybe it's little to no prep time and just wing it (not m...

Re: The allure of the mega-dungeon - why?

Hal, You bring up a lot of great points about them. But, to be honest, for me, the allure definitely applies more to the player than the DM. At least it does in my case. Do you remember the "World's Largest Dungeon" that came out about 10-12 years ago? It was designed for 3rd Ed but I was ...

Re: Doppelgangers

Wow, he must have really enjoyed 'going under cover'. Yeah, he was a natural actor and truly enjoyed the role-playing aspect of the game. Sadly, he & I went our separate ways when we both went to different bases after our tour in Alaska ended. I keep hoping to find others like him but, alas, ha...

Re: Doppelgangers

They are lots of potential fun but as has been pointed out, they can cause a great deal of additional headache for the DM especially if you use one to take over a major PC in the party. I did this once and was able to convince the player to continue playing to DG as his PC (who was safely ensconced ...

Re: Dragon Magazine in .pdf format

I also have the CD set but I was unable to get to the dragon issues and kept getting an error, even when trying from the main index page. Dungeon worked fine I even tried using MS Edge and just kept getting the error message. Any clues?

Re: Fresh Starts??

G, This is a pretty big decision but it sounds like most of the players are on board with it. I believe my first consideration would be to ask yourself if the current group appears to be a reliable fit going forward. If you are convinced that everyone will be together for a while, I suppose you coul...

Re: Best Wife Ever!

Very cool. Must be nice to have such an understanding spouse. While mine has less than zero interest in gaming, at least she's letting me have my own big game room when we move soon. Of course, that room will also have to double as my stereo cave as well but I'm fine with that. Make sure you provide...

Re: It REALLY IS scary IMO

Hi Matt, It took me awhile to warm up to "smart" phones also. I feel they have become something of a crutch to many folks in our society today. I used to find it amusing to see folks bent over their phones intently concentrating on whatever the "app" of the moment might be. Now I...

Re: Who uses 'gaming paper'?

It's an indictment of our education system. Instead of teaching the fundamentals we're concentrating more on being sensitive and that everyone's a "winner"!!!

Getting waaaaay off track here...
