Rainshadow (Private thread) Labyrinth of Madness

A classic 2e Puzzle dungeon for High Level characters
Beware, this one is substantially longer and (IMHO) even harder than the legendary Tomb of Horrors!

Hokay. I've looked around, weighed the options, read some rules...
(By the way, my favorite rpg writer, Aaron Allston, wrote the Complete Priest's Handbook.)

I feel like I want to undo everything and play a Fighter. Because I'm not good at 2e, I think going simple will be best. I'm considering a "giant" character, if that's an option, or a human.

I just have this image in my head of having a crossbow, and being a smart fighter, so I don't want to resist that. For some reason the character in my mind's eye has a mustache, so I'm going to go with it.

I'll go with my plan, and if it's not good, let me know. I think the process will help me even if you want me to take a different route.

8, 10, 10, 8, 6, 5

Str 10 + 7 = 17
int 8 + 3 = 11
Wis 5 + 6 = 11
Dex 8 + 3 = 11
Con 10 + 5 = 15
Cha 6 + 4 = 10

Hmmm...

If I use method 1, I get

15, 13, 14, 15, 15, 13

Which is better all around....

Str 15
Int 13
Wis 14
Dex 15
Con 15
Cha 13

Yeah, he doesn't need to be super strong, so I think I'll go with this.

Sweet :)
so when you say 'giant'...
The Complete Humanoid book has Firbolg giant kin. I can send you a link to a free version on 'anyflip' Here if you're interested.
+2 str, -2 cha. Natural AC 3, 15% magic resistance, Several daily powers (like diminution, det magic, etc), and they have giant weps that do a lot of dmg

-the caveat is it requires twice as much xp to level so 2 mil would het him to lvl 12 instead of 16 he'd start

I'm digging it. I read the Firbolg entry. Even though he's 10.5 feet tall, can he have a giant crossbow? Could I take a heavy crossbow and treat it as a light crossbow for speed etc.?

I want him to have been raised by humans, and his father was a city guard, and he started as a 10.5-foot city guard before venturing out.

Maybe he could be just under nine feet, like 8 feet 10 inches....?
(And I'm cool with 12th Level)

He can be as short as 9 ft, since that's where the line is for a Large category creature.

There are some Giant weapons (like longbow and 2-H sword) in Complete Humanoid. For the heavy crossbow, the time is because it operates with a crank; otherwise high-atrength warriors wpuld be able to speed it up as well.

That said, I use a different damage table for crossbows than in the book (they do more dmg). I added the list to the rules thread

Heavy Crossbow RoF=1/2rd, dmg=1d12/1d12, range=8/16/24
