Linar withdraws to go get his longsword from the stream (and otherwsie ignoring developments in the combat) then sheathing his shortsword.

Bullock begins to withdraw back towards the party, he can hear the fierce melee echoing in the caves behind him, almost there... The worgs follow hot on his tracks and with a ferocious roar he lays one open to the bone across the ribs with one sword! His second attack is stiffled by the creature launching itself at his face! Filthy teeth gnash and tear at his flesh as the mounting wounds drain his legs of strength. The animal bears him heavily to the hard, unyielding stone and his vision fades to blackness.

The remainder of the party swings and slashes at the lone Worg which has so far forestalled them. Neither side seems able to land a blow, save one. Dran, bloodied and snarling at the beast attacking his mother lunges ferociously! Snapping jaws catch the much larger canine's mangy hide as he shakes and tears into his foe!Linar slips away from the combat and wades into the water, searching quickly for his lost longsword.

The four Worg riders watch the battle. With a wordless cry the Trident-wielding leader makes a single signal and charges the front lines! He and one other ride their sprinting steeds forward to clash with Nocturno! Their weapons glance dangerously off of the Elf's armor, and his nimble grace helps him evade the gnashing fangs of the Worgs. The lead beast over extends and falls prone beside him, but the goblin remains in his seat atop it. Linar manages to find his sword in the cold water. Just as he looks up, beyond the group he and the others can see the remaining Worg two riders circling around, perhaps to come from the south...

Findalsip begins to draw upon the energies of the Underdark. An eerie greyish light begins to coalesce around his hand as he utters words of ancient power none present have heard the like of. The deep Gnome swings his glowing hand at the Worg which has given the group so much trouble, but the nimble creature evades his grasp.
Nearby, his forest bretheren begins an unusual ritual of his own.

Jordek whistles sharply and a tiny flying squirrel's head pops out from his collar, ears perked! Grabbing his companion by the tufted ears, he chants what seems to be utter gibberish to all present and pulls! Frantic screeching is followed by an audible pop! as it appears as if two more tiny squirrels have been pulled off of the first like tiny coats! Alright Nit! Wit! Go mess that mangy dog's face up! The tiny creatures lunge at the troublesome Worg, one managing to climb onto his head and scurry about in a most distracting fashion! Though distracted, the Worg continues to attack the Ranger, biting her yet again and injuring her badly! The Felis gives as good as she gets and lays a long cut across the Worg's side as it whines from the mounting wounds.

Howls echo from the passage south and more Worg riders enter the fray! The first rushes up behind Nocturno, the filthy canine clamping down on him with slavering jaws as the rider's spear scores a glancing blow! The pain and surprise cause the fighter-cleric's aim and grip to fail briefly and his longsword goes skittering to the ground past Katten! The leader of the goblin riders manages to urge his prone mount to it's feet. Next to the leader, his trusted guard attacks the High elf with animalistic fervor! The large beast snaps its jaws shut on the heavily armored elf, thrashing and shaking as it grinds its fangs; painfully crushing the warrior until all thoughts of rage fade as the world grows dark around him. His opponent releases the cleric, dropping him unceremoniously to the cold cavern floor...

An unmounted Worg emerges from the southern passage and rushes Linar, still knee deep in water! It snaps and bites at the Drow, but fails to make contact. Linar drops his bow and retalliates by slashing and stabing at the Worg with his blades. The beast ducks the initial swing from his larger sword, but right into a quick jab from the scout's short-sword, eliciting a surprised yelp!

Three more fresh goblin cavalry charge from the southern passage, splitting up to engage other members of the party. One peels off towards the Dark elf. As crushing jaws begin to close over his shoulder they skitter harmlessly over his new cloak almost miraculously!!! The second approaches the Svirfneblin from behind, though he nimbly evades the gnashing teeth, the goblin rider delivers a weak glancing blow to his back.
The last attacks the Forest Gnome, but Jordek proves quite agile in his evasions and the pair catch nothing but air.


[Actions Round 8?]
[So, one house rule of mine that hasn't come up often relates to touch attacks. By the book in 2e you get 1 chance to touch a friend or foe and the spell dissipates if you don't. I usually find that a little harsh, particularly at lower levels. The house rule is you get 3 tries, but each try naturally takes a full round. I don't feel this is overly generous as instead of magical resources you are investing time. Time which could be critical. The spell can be released or the touch attempted a max of 3 times including the initial casting. That was why Jordek made multiple attempts at the CLW. And it might come in handy for another Gnomish fellow. I'll add the house rule to the rules thread for record-keeping.]

If still mobile after incoming attacks, Linar sheathes his shortsword and nimbly prances, Bladesong Style, while withdrawing to the south. He then tries to cast Suggestion on the worg-riding goblin that just tried to attack him (gwr5). If that golbin has used a language that Linar knows then he Suggests in that langauge, otherwise using orcish, "We're such good friends I need protecting so I can lead you to your half of my big pile of gold."

Fin hops forward with a spry agility and smacks the injured Worg on the snout! The beast blinks and paws at his face, the golden eyes going a milky white as he is blinded! Nearby, the forest Gnome draws a pair of daggers and begins swinging wildly to fend off the creature attacking him. The now sightless Worg lunges at Katten, narrowly missing her despite his new impairment. The Ranger returns the favor by cutting the mangy beast down with relative impunity!

Linar draws upon the power of the Underdark, a violet light welling up within his mouth. To the mounted goblin threatening him he speaks in Orcish words of friendship and riches laced with hidden power... The goblin blinks at first in confusion, then nods and grins greedily. Answering in that same language, he urges the Drow to lead the way. Linar begins to back away from the goblin and two Worgs, the latter seeming ready to pounce! His new goblinoid ally sharply calls them to heel and the trained mounts obey in equal confusion as the trio begin to follow the dark elf...

Behind Findalsip another Worg lunges dangerously close! In fact, teeth slick with drool glide smoothly off of his newfound cloak as if by magic!!! The mounted goblin stabs in a practiced manner but the sudden diversion of his steed throws his balance and he drops his weapon to maintain his hold on the large canine!! To his fore, another of the remaining worgs moves to help surround the group. Instead of targeting the gnome, it continues the fallen Worg's assault on the Ranger! With a snarl it rips a terrible wound in the Felis' side, staggering her slightly. Dutifully, Dran lunges at his mother's assailant; leaving a fair sized gash for an adolescent of his size.

The Obvious leader of the Worg Riders gestures to the lone unmounted goblin and then calls out to the party in broken Common. You fight gud, but can no win. Drop you wepunz an we no keel. he nods to the other goblin, who points a spear at the unconscious Nocturno's neck. You be slave. Eet not so bad, you get fud, you deeg, you no die. He waves the blood-stained tips of his trident in their general direction. Me no got time to wait. You geev up?!

Linar withdraw, dancing nimbly to Bullock's side, then with back to the wall tries to cast Cure Light Wounds on his fallen comrade, and says when he regains any sense he has, "This goblin is Charmed and my friend. The riderless worg is hostile."
