S6 by Monte Cook from 1995. Designed for 2e. IMHO this one is the tougher of the two, but not by much.

yeah, there is an object in the bottom of the pot somewhere, but the pole he used to prod around was damaged by the liquid. stripped the outside and ate part of it like an acid

"Well, if you are overweight this swim would be perfect to lose some." Galan joins the joke streak. "This is potent acid. It might e useful by it's own, but probably we should drain it somehow to see what else is in this vat."
After a moment of thought Galan offers, "Maybe the different liquids interact with each other and one could cancel the acid... Did you see any small containers in the room? We can make some experiments..."

Looking around, they find many small containers in the room, most dusty or containing some sticky or crusty films inside as remnants of components past.

Are small container made out of metal? Is it possible to lift or slide the vats?

(The containers are mostly earthen/pottery. The large vats are extremely heavy and made into the floor)

Van will look around for any elongated tools that might have been used in the vats. If none of those are available, he will get to searching over another section of wall.

"Well, while we find something useful to fetch the liquids, you can check the third vat and later we return to our experiments." Galan says to Bryce. He looks for tongs that can help fetching the liquid with small container without endangering anyone.

Van looks around but doesn't find any long tools, only shorter dippers and the like. He goes on to search more of the wall.

Bryce shrugs and begins to prod at the third vat. The surface ripples and jiggles oddly, before rising like a reaching tendril. Suddenly the blob slides out of the vat and surges towards the party!!

Zafron initiative: Initiative : [1d10]=3 + 5 for the scimitar of speed = 8. He goes first in the round becuase of the scimitar.

Tabbi : Will attack with a +1 dagger.

"Alright Bryce! You fished something! Guys! We have some quarrel with err... the vat content in here." and he plays a tune to singing of flames and piercing, as he casts fire arrows at the 'thing'.
Faladair prays shortly looking at his friends and asks for their protection, then waves his mace and consider the best spot to hit the blob.

(Looks like Noct is MIA for a bit, so we'll get this started and Van will just be on 'autopilot' for a bit)

Faldair takes out a some fine silver powder and begins to trace a large circle in the floor. Zafron rushes past the table nearby and slashes at the large blob before it can do more than emerge from the vessel. He moves so fast, however, he nearly loses hold of his weapon! With fantastic reflex, he manages to hold onto the magical scimitar. Faldair completes his ritual and a protective aura radiates around him. Bryce hurls his magical dagger, nailing the wiggling amorphous thing with a well aimed throw. The abomination shrieks and squeals, as he evidently struck a sensitive spot, though no evidence can show how or why. Zafron slashes again, this time connecting and cutting a deep gash in the now badly injured thing.

Galan begins one of his magical incantations and suddenly the torches (held by Faldair and Sorril) each flash with a white-hot light and extinguish as nearly a score of fiery arrows streak towards the jelly-like foe! The stench and screeches of the dying creature fill the room horrifically. In an instnant little more than smoke and smoldering slime is left of the beast. Sorril quickly retrieves another torch and lights it, marveling at the destruction.


[Realized a bit late that Galan's spell Fire arrows requires a campfire nearby which explodes with arrows as it goes out. To avoid further delay i'll let it come from the party's torches this once. Wow.. that thing is really over powered at high levels... might have to put a cap of 10 arrows on it... gave the die roller quite a workout (lol). The saving throws on that are kind of annoying too ]

Sorrin uses his drawn sword to shift aside some of the smoldering sludge. Strange... there is something down here... He uses the tip of his sword to shift it around, and the clink of metal can be heard. Between his weapon and gauntleted hand he is able to fish the object out. Shaking the muck off of his gauntlet he holds up what appears to be shining an intricately carved length of metal. One end of it is formed as if it were designed to hook around another object, and the other end bears irregular grooves like a key.

"Hmm... We cooked this thing quite fast... I hope this metal bar opens something important or else it would be very disappointing." Galan says. "Maybe we can put some of this... goo.. in the middle vat. Or maybe the bar we found is acid proof and we can use the hook to collect what is down there. Also spilling the content is always an option." Galan looks at Sorril, "Care to put the tip of the hook in the middle jar and see if it is safe?"
