Yeah, I see that, I was hoping to try something different, but the no str or dex bonuses kind of make my rediculous rolls pointless.

I would do a cleric/fighter if we don't get healers. I do enjoy that character.

Sounds good.

Now pick a race :)

a half-elf or elf would make a good addition.

Karlene Blackcloud
Female Dhampir
Short back hair, greased up. Green eyes. Black leathers.
Assassin/cleric as a government operative, prob LN align, (unless assassin/cleric/mage is allowed?)

Does high Int generate extra NWP slots?

4d6 rolls: [1d6] = 5,[1d6] = 6,[1d6] = 5,[1d6] = 3
4d6 rolls: [1d6] = 4,[1d6] = 3,[1d6] = 6,[1d6] = 6
4d6 rolls: [1d6] = 1,[1d6] = 6,[1d6] = 6,[1d6] = 6
4d6 rolls: [1d6] = 5,[1d6] = 6,[1d6] = 2,[1d6] = 5
4d6 rolls: [1d6] = 5,[1d6] = 2,[1d6] = 4,[1d6] = 5
4d6 rolls: [1d6] = 3,[1d6] = 3,[1d6] = 2,[1d6] = 4

Gives re-rolls for 4 off 1 or 2s:
Re-roll 1&2s: [1d6] = 5
Re-roll 1&2s: [1d6] = 4
Re-roll 1&2s: [1d6] = 6
Re-roll 1&2s: [1d6] = 4

Gives 6 stats:
5653 ==> drop 3, 16
4366 ==> drop 3, 16
1666 ==> reroll 1 ==> 5666 ==> drop 5, 18
5625 ==> reroll 2 ==> 5645 ==> drop 4, 16
5245 ==> reroll 2 ==> 5645 ==> drop 4, 16
3324 ==> reroll 2 ==> 3344 ==> drop 3, 11

@Spike: Please review/approve. Was there +1 Str, +1 Dex with this race? Any negatives to stats?

Can you possibly revise the name? Charlie isn't a standard given name in my campaign world. Something a bit more medieval sounding would gel better. Unless you're bent on a very Earth sounding first name for any reason?

Some examples of names

Orath
Aronis Tenspells
Daynar
Latherin Dark
Talon Backstabber
Sable Solatra
Kessa
Ragnar
Morga
Aegis
Storm Telemvor
Alzor Dam
Zor

No negatives to stats.

Charles was used in the 8th century, but sure.
How about Karlene ?
Or shall I make one up with either lots of vowels or lots of consonants?

Thinking about it, I'd assumed by osmosis that as you've referred to government operatives it imported some cyberpunk elements.
If untrue, the piercings can be deleted.

Karlene works!

Yeah I know Charles is English medieval, but Charlie sounds a bit too Earthy for me, or widely used I guess. Kinda want to break away from too Earthbound medieval is what I was getting at (haven't had sufficient coffee this morning, so bear with me :P).

What class were considering? I'd definitely recommend you go with magic-user or cleric, even cleric/mage would be a great combo for the group and for survivability too.

Ok, have just been poking around on net and found "Lorica" which means "Protective Shell".
Would you prefer that as a nmae?

And how do the stats look?
i.e. I want your nod, please, before I continue char gen.

I was going to go with Assassin/cleric as a government operative, prob LN align.
Hmmm is assassin/cleric/mage allowed?

Just had a micropowercut. Bombed my router, but reset fixed it..

*NODS THE DM NOD OF APPROVAL*

mage/cleric/thief but not assassin, sorry. Plus it'd take forever for you to level, just bear that in mind.

I'll let you decide whether assassin/cleric or mage. But the party needs a good magic-user, and will suffer without one.

Ah, okay. The Nyrian crown will have inducted you as a royal assassin, which ties in well. I'll have it for sake of storyline that you and Idrys Stormcrow were twins (not identical) separated at birth. You were given to an orphanage and adopted by a husband and wife baker and chef in Corealus whose culinary skills landed them to working at the behest of the queen in her kitchens.. they died of old age and you were adopted as a courtier messenger for the crown, and later due to your loyalty and efficiency offered a promotion to serve as one of the queens royal assassins.

Ty for the nod.
And I really like the way you pull these background out of wherever. Nice.

Query, trying to compromise here: can one have the position/title of royal assassin without being Assassin class? i.e. mage/cleric/thief classes..

I'd say thieves would be an acceptable second (sometimes better IMHO). Typically clerics or magic-users single class aren't good agents for the crown for obvious reasons.

Thanks, guess DMing sessions have paid off in undergrad back in the heyday.

Agreed then.
Can you set me a folder in the character sheet section sometime please?

Query 1: What weapons does LOR allow her clerics?
Query 2: What NWP come as free for a government operative Dhampir ?

Here's where I've got to:
(I took ht & wt as per the tables in 2nd Ed (coulsn't see it in 1st). That ok? Or..? I took the age as per Tristen's char as I think you said they're twins, correct?)

@Chris

#1: two handed mace, footmans mace, staff, dagger, or chainwhip are typical preferred melee weapons of the Lorian order.

#2: Intelligence Gathering, Infiltrate, and torture resistance.

Creating you a thread now!

@Spike: thanks for setting that up. I've done a 10h day today (with a coupel of hours trval on top so I can't do this justice.. I'll try and give it a good go tomorrow night though. (sorry for holding you up).
Few quick questions:
how do you handle languages - W/R versus spoken? And number of same with Int?
Just checking I've got it right on NWP: I need to add any from the government/background to any from race and then add in any from NWPs as per PHB (2 at L1 I think) correct?

Dhampir start out with 2 languages both written and spoken, you get a bonus +1 for being a cleric and an additional one for previously being a courtesan.

More than likely you will speak Jez'zurian (equal to French),common, and ancient common (Latin), and Elvish. I'm not really too uptight on languages but if you want something outlandish like 'black dragon' you should have some form of good reason/background reason. No many people learn or speak 'Beholder' lol.

clerics of Lor start out with 5 NWP vs. the usual amount, sorry I forgot to mention that. They can also specialize in one particular weapon of choice but no other, ever (this is a WP called Signature Weapon specific to this class). The specialization only grants you the +1/+2 per usual, but you cannot double specialize.

Thx for that.
Do these languages exist in your world: gnome, Halfling, lizardman, ogrish,goblin, kobald, orcish ?
Would a Dhampir (ok mine) likely have had the opportunity to learn all of these? Or are there more likely/more useful human ones e.g. french v English v German

If you learn a language (bonus lang for High INT), does that give both R/W and spoken ? Or have to be leaned separately? Or have to use a NWP to be able to write all spken languages? Or..?
