The man opens his mouth as if to speak again, when something in the distance catches his eye. Quickly he disappears behind the wall. It feels like minutes before the well-worn wood begins to descend smoothly. The oiled chains run from ring pins on the bridge up through a small opening in the stone-towers to either side. Iron-bound double-gates stand imposingly in the stone wall here, marred by deep gouges and scrapes. She sees a man-sized door set in the middle of one, with a steel grate across a small window set in it. Glancing back she sees something in the shadow of the sparse trees near the foothills... an odd, green light flashes for just an instant in the failing sunlight.

DJerry tries ro recall anything similar to the green flash {OOC: Spellcraft (17)} and then bustles in towards the entrance to the city, entering when the way is open.

The flash does not appear to be magical in nature, perhaps a quick reflection of some kind, though it gives her an uneasy feeling... As she approaches, a slide is drawn back and a pair of sharp blue-violet eyes watches her from beyond. The guard repeats his question in that gruff voice. A slight widening of his eyes causes her to glance back... Two sharp, greenish orbs bounce in the distance in an undulating manner. It takes her a moment to realize they must be the eyes of some charging beast still hundreds of feet away! The figure itself is difficult to define in the long shadows cast by nearby trees and field furrows, but one thing is certain; it is coming for her!

A hastily drawn latch and the sound of bolts being drawn are her only warning before the man-sized door opens outward. A new guard gestures anxiously for her to enter, never taking his eyes off of the sprinting creature. She passes quickly through the entryway, which she could see now was made of overlapping layers of wood nearly two feet thick! The door closed firmly behind her by a third guard. This one’s hair was so pale it was nearly silver and he had the look of a seasoned fighter. He was lean but muscular, and his serious eyes were clearly the ones that had regarded her through the doorway. Each of them have those startling blue-violet eyes and wore chainmail and a black tabard with a golden lute worked upon it.

The spacious houses around her were almost exclusively single-story white stucco with broad wood-beamed frames and thatched roofs. Small, arched windows flanked by surprisingly thick wooden shutters of blue or green decorated the walls; every last one fitted with a strong bolt or latch. Several people stood around in clusters talking in that harmonic language or walking along, seemingly eager to be indoors before dark… she even heard singing flowing from down the street! Everyone she could see had a light, almost pale, complexion. Those with fair hair, ranging from summer-wheat to platinum blonde, outnumbered others with jet-black hair nearly five-to-one. Fortunately her own blonde hair wouldn't stand out.

A wide dirt road continued northward into the city, and she could see it met a large intersection some distance ahead with a sprawling two-story structure on the western side. The 40’ cliffs outside the city seemed to provide a formidable wall to the East, and even shaped a smaller hill within the southwest corner of the wall that looked to support some larger buildings sporting red roofs. The sound of the drawbridge thumping closed brought her back to the moment.

The sentries stood, regarding her for a moment and taking in the torn robes, mace and her travel pack until the leader spoke again in that melodic tongue, Maintenant que vous êtes en sécurité , ne vous dérange pas de nous dire qui vous êtes et pourquoi vous êtes à Harmonia ? Oddly enough, she feels as if she can almost understand him... he seems to be asking who she is and what she is doing here...

Jerry keeps her hands away from her morningstar and says slowly in elvish, "I'm a traveler. I'm lost. I need to sleep. Thank you for letting me into your town."

The older guard's manner relaxes slightly. She gets the feeling he is re-assessing his initial impression of her and studying her face, hair and ears. Nodding, he replies in broken Elvish, Lost. Far to Sithicus. Harmonia welcomes her. He gestures with an open hand, indicating she is welcome. Asleep Wanderer left. He points down a wide dirt road continuing northward into the city, and she could see it met a large intersection some distance ahead with a sprawling two-story structure on the western side. The 40’ cliffs outside the city seemed to provide a formidable wall to the East, and even shaped a smaller hill within the southwest corner of the wall that looked to support some larger buildings sporting red roofs. The sound of the drawbridge thumping closed brought her back to the moment.

Jerry says "Thank you," in elvish to the older guard and then curtsies reasonably elegantly.
With a nod and a smile she goes off in the direction indicated looking for a sign outside a building that might indicate an inn (or other place that sleeps strangers.)

The road merges with a wide cobblestone street here, running both east and west for blocks before curving northward. The path she followed narrows considerably to the north and leads to a large man-made hill the same height as the outer wall to the city. Another imposing wall, apparently hexagonal and nearly the height of the hill itself, rises above it. Above even that, the top of some fortress-like tower peeks barely over the side.

Focusing on the two-level structure to her right, she sees that it has a painted sign out front depicting a man sitting a long bench with his walking staff propped beside him. Blood red words, written in an elegant form, adorn the sign below the image. They are strange to her, but somehow familiar. Beside the sign itself is a painted black plaque in the form of a shield, bearing a golden lute; which matched the guards' tabards exactly. An angled bay-window on the second floor overlooks the corner and perhaps the whole of the town, given the smaller stature of the surrounding structures. A warm light flows from the window as well as a gap between the thick twin doors at the entrance. The sounds of a common room wash through the small opening.

Putting on her best disarming smile Jerry thinks not for the first time ~Where in Faerun have I ended up?~ and enters the common room.
She will have a look round whisle listening for any fragments of conversation that she can actually understand, (and also which languages are being used.)

Jerry pushes into the inn, the warmth of the space and the quiet clamber of a public setting washing weariness and apprehension away. She can quickly see that the place is well kept, adequately staffed and in good order. A hefty man in a white apron stands behind the bar, cleaning a glass as he speaks intimately with a woman about his age. Next to one end of the bar is a swinging door that must lead to the kitchen. A stairway leads up past the other side, next to a hall that progresses farther into the inn. A small raised area appears to be a stage for entertainment, already set up with a stool and a pitcher of water as if it awaited a performer eminently. At the edge of the stage there is a broad fireplace with a roaring blaze that pushes back the cold of outdoors. Patrons are beginning to filter in with the failing light, and a few have already ordered an early supper. The only language she hears seems to be the odd one the guard first used… it must be a local dialect. The language is still alien to her and the numbee of conversations going on within earshot make the entire thing impossible to decipher at present.

Jerry mills around a bit listening for any words or language familiar to her and keep a lookout for any whose garb suggests 'traveler' (or, even better, 'adventurer').
Even a local religious type with a holy icon on display might give some clue as to where in Faerun she is.

Jerry walks around a bit, and miraculously picks out a little of the conversations. One couple dining is speaking about a musician with some excitement; perhaps the one the stage is laid for. Another group seems to be discussing the meal itself and the dark wine they have before them, apparently called Meekulbrau. She doesn't see any religious symbols that she recognizes... in fact, she doesn't see any at all, which strikes her as odd. After a moment or two the hefty man in the apron approaches her. He has a humble and polite manner, and moves with a certain alacrity that speaks of heavy muscle under his fat. Bienvenue sur le repos du voyageur. Puis-je vous aider? he asks in that musical language. Unfortunately, she has no idea what he said...

jerry Harmonian lang check [1d100] = 1[1d100] = 2[1d100] = 59. Pass, pass, fail. Jerry understands some of tge conversations.

jerry Harmonian lang check inkeeper [1d100] = 82 Fail

It is important to note that a check doesn't mean she gets a literal translation, just the gist of a given statement from inference and body language.

Jerry says, with a smile, to the hefty man in the apron (who contexturally looks like a barman), "I'm a traveler. I've just arrived. Does anyone here speak other languages? Elvish perhaps?"

He doesn't seem to understand her, but he gestures around and mimes eating and drinking, then a key and sleeping.

[Ooc: did Jerry say that in common or Elven?]

{OOC: Elven as it seems closet to the local language}

She nods and indicates 'key' and raises her eyebrows to make it a question.
She says in Common, "If only someone could understand me."

He nods, repeating the turning motion and gestures for her to follow him to the bar.
