Game "Tone"

Kind of interesting, the different tones that games have, isn't it? For example:
  • LSO: Traveling around
  • War of the Lance: Feels dark and gloomy
  • AD:LC: Swashbuckling
  • Demiplane: So far, feels the most like stereotypical D&D
Just interesting all the different feelings, all the same game.

Well the Demiplane gamr is straight from a module (with flavored rp) so... it kinda is classic, stereotypical d&d ;)

Then of course you have Keltis where Namenlos has thrown out convention and letting us try something different. (And proving he is far from an amateur)

Pixie warlock anyone?

Personally id say that Borderlands is the closest to stereotypical D&D but without magical items.

As a rule, I try and have a completely different tone for each of my games when possible. Different themes, too. My next game, which I've been working on since July of last year, will follow that pattern, as well.

@Jaded: Your two certainly do have a different tone. Very much so.
Am I allowed to ask about the next one that you have planned?

I was looking forwards to Waterdeep too, that's yet another tone. Any idea when/if MLT (Mel?) is possibly back ?

mltillis last logged in two weeks ago. No idea when/if he's coming back, but he does have a tendency to vanish for long stretches at a time quite frequently.

My next game is going to be "Lost Souls: Gontoria." It will have a heavy focus on politics, diplomacy, intrigue, class warfare, fantastic racism, and socializing. The metaplot is heavily inspired by the Crisis of the Late Middle Ages of Europe.

That sounds interesting... Is it separate from Lost Souls: Octhania ?

It's the same world and around the same time (the year 312), but will take place on the mainland instead of on the tropical islands. The setting is much more European in flavor, where as Octhanian was more American (specifically, back when America was the "New World" during the Age of Exploration).

Following a post he left today on another site, I dont think he'll be back anytime soon.

I've placed Waterdeep in an "on hold" folder, with Saltmarsh...

Shame that, still, can't be helped, he has to do what he has to do. Thx for telling me; appreciated.
