CH. 15: There and Back Again

Post by JadedDM »

Jocelyn, Ouragana, Val, Baeros, Granite, Gallath, and Drav (Harbor)
It is the morning of Sardonx 6th, Lightday (shortly after breakfast), when the Bullring finally pulls back into the harbor of Narin. It was good to finally see land again, especially after being at sea for a week. The party had plenty of time to rest, heal and plan their next move. Thaddeus spent the week working on the cannon, slowly making progress. He now felt confident they were ready for a field test. Although first they needed a proper target to practice on.

The eight party members, along with Thaddeus, Sierra and Terra, disembark together. "You've got two days," Sierra says. "That should be long enough to resupply the ship and do what you need to do. Plus, the crew could use a bit of shoreleave."

"One of you might want to take those gemstones to the jeweler, see if you can get them appraised," Terra suggests.

Jocelyn and Brock had agreed to escort Ouragana to the temple of Gonto to try and remove the curse on her. But what everyone else decides to do is up to them.

(OOC: Everyone is now fully healed.)

Naras Stonebreaker (Temple of Gonto)
Naras finishes up breakfast on the morning of Sardonx 6th, Lightday. It had now been a full week since she first arrived here. Tomorrow was Rockday, the usual holy day for Gonto. It would be interesting to see how much of a turnout there would be and how much fuller the church coffers would be afterward.

The last few days had been relatively quiet. Roken and his laborers have been hard at work at the forge. People are upset about the new tax, but having the new kohen support it helped. Ulvorn also hinted the new tax would be used to help bolster defenses in case of another Leaguer attack, and that also made it easier to swallow. Word had spread about the Gontorian who had been killed by the Leaguers and that the new kohen went to their hideout and brutally killed them all. The town had been nearly burned down in a Leaguer attack 10 years ago, and so people were on edge at the thought of something like that happening again.

For now, though, things were peaceful. Hopefully today would continue that trend...

"So, we get this cursed removed since I couldn't do it," Jocelyn says to Ouragana. "And then...well I'm not really sure what is next after that," she admits. "We should probably have a talk afterwards," she adds to Oura with a sigh.

Naras Stonebreaker (Temple of Gonto)
Naras hands Otoya a parchment and comments, “In case anything should happen and I disappear, this is a statement of Agnas’s legacy. It is already fully tithed. I’ve been managing it separately from the core temple funds to launch the armourer’s workshop. That way, if the workshop goes under, it won’t drag the temple down with it.”

Working in the twilight hours at Roken's shop has paid off - things finally fall into place enabling Naras to manufacture metal armour. {OOC: Armourer 14, CBoDw, p39}

=========

{OOC: The parchment reads: ‘Agnas’s legacy: cash 92GP, one-third share in armourer’s workshop (value 200GP), small ruby risk (potential liability 20GP), magical battleaxe (actual realisation value tbd from Roken, weaponsmith)}

{OOC: In the few days elapsed, Naras has slight changed her spells, looking to raise coin or services into the temple: 3. Create Food & Water, Cure Disease, <blank*>.
*Assumes that a blank slot can be filled with an appropriate amount of prayer later in the day. If not the case, then 50% chance Cure Blindness, 50% chance Remove Curse.}

Val looks for a Mage that might be able to tell her about her new stuff. In addition, she looks around for spendy gem to trade all of her cumbersome metal for. She wisely doesn't carry it around until a deal is done.

Ouragana leaves all her spellbooks and the spell components behind on the Bullring (so she is no longer in encumbrance). "How much will it cost to have the curse lifted?" she asks Jocelyn before they leave. "And yes, we should talk."

Jocelyn takes the lead when it comes to walking to the temple. "I don't know what it is going to cost," she admits. "Octhanian priests don't charge for things like this," she explains. "Gonto priests are different."

Jocelyn, Ouragana, Val, Baeros, Granite, Gallath, and Drav (Harbor)
Drav takes 100 GP from his share of the reward and places them in his pack.
Gallath wrote:"If you're not doing anything, would you care to join me for dinner? Also, I'd like to take Thaddeus and go get these gems appraised."
"What?" asks Thaddeus. "Why do you need me to appraise gems? I'm afraid I have several errands I need to run myself."

Sierra looks at Gallath with surprise, then seems to consider this. "That's not a bad idea. We did something like that twice before, so why not? Sure, everyone can come to dinner at my cabin tonight. Just like old times. Everyone try and make it back here by nightfall," she tells the whole party.

"Sounds like fun," Terra adds. "It will give us all the chance to catch up."

With that settled, the party splits up. Granite mutters something about some things he needs to take care of and heads into town.

Val decides first to find another mage. She remembers when she was here last that there is no mage guild here, as the town is too small. But there might be some Storm Sorcerers off duty from other ships that are harbored here. She could try looking for them at an inn. She could try the shady Barnacle Inn which is closer to the docks or the more respectable Paragon Inn. As for jewelry, she remembers the obnoxious gnome, Hubert Diamondeye, runs the only jewelry shop in town.

Jocelyn, Ouragana and Brock head for the Temple of Gonto. It looks just as they remember it, although it looks like they are in the process of building a new room onto it. Stepping inside, they spot Leena again, sweeping floors as usual to prepare for tomorrow's services. "Welcome to the Temple of Gonto. How can we...wait, I remember you," she says, looking at Jocelyn and Brock. "What do you want now?"

==========

Ouragana is no longer in encumbrance. Her movement rate increases to 12.

Naras Stonebreaker (Temple of Gonto, Naras' office)
Otaya takes the paper and looks it over. "Are you expecting something to happen to you?" she asks. "Wait, are you saying you're using the money that was meant for Agnas' granddaughter to build the new forge?"

(OOC: I've edited Naras' spells, but as I've explained before, new proficiencies are learned during the downtime between arcs. It will take more than a couple of days for Naras to learn Armorer.)

"You make us sound like a bunch of trouble makers," Jocelyn says in amusement to Leena. "But, we need your help to remove a curse from our friend here," she says, motioning to Ouragana. "I couldn't do it, so I was hoping one of you could."

"Nope. Only the money left from the rescue expedition. And yes it's fully tithed. That's the same money that you or Leena said Agnas's Will left to the church and I got Agnas herself to confirm it. You do remember that, don't you?" replied Naras, somewhat testily.

Having been working her butt off since arriving on the island to try and turn the temple around, poking at her honesty would not end well. Feeling herself getting grumpy, the dwarf changed the subject, "Anyway, have you had any new ideas about getting the magical stuff identified? Is there another bard around? or maybe a sage?"

{OOC: @Jaded, will wait til you declare who arrives at the temple (and in what order if the visitors dont all arrive together). - Naras wouldn't know their names unless the arrivals introduce themselves, so maybe just declare what Naras sees. Or you could decide that Naras is in her chambers and one of the acolytes does the introductions which could get to the same point a lost faster.}

(OOC: I also want to drop off my armor, I shouldn't need it right now.)

Drav looks at Gallath, then to the Captain. "There are things even /I/ can see. I've lived on an island for decades, and I already know that was more a personal request," he says, dropping some other stuff off, "As for me, I'll be heading to the market if anyone wants to join me."

(OOC: I think I've started the ball.)

Remembering the assassination attempt, Baeros stays with Jocelyn at all times hoping to keep her safe. He doesn't even feel the need to say anything, just follows. Takit and Hopper happy to have land under their feet again runs and play all around. As they walk through the town Baeros enjoys the view a the smells around. When Drav suggests the market he says, "After the temple we can meet there and grab some exotic dish for breakfast! Maybe some fruits. I've missed normal food." Then he throws a look at the dwarves hoping he didn't insult them by suggesting the food on the ship was NOT normal...

"A cursed book took away most of what I know and I'm unable to learn it again" Ouragana explains to Leena. she looks around in the temple.

(OOC: I'm not 100% sure, but I beleive that Ouragna has not visited the temple before.)
