"Would you fill pearl in on the details, please, Leena?" Naras answered.

Leena looks confused. "I'm not sure I understand what you are talking about," she admits. "You offered Pearl a job? What job? Do we have the budget to hire another person? Unless she can bring in extra income, taking her in might make things harder for us."

"Leena, You were busy when you had Agnas and now you do not. How would you cope with that?" the dwarf replied. "Do not get concerned. This is a matter of faith. I have that. Now trust me. Explain Agnas's dutues, pay and the conditions in whch she worked."

"That was when the kohen was missing," Leena explains. "I mean, he still is. But you're here now." She sighs. "The position of acolyte is simple. First, you must swear an oath to follow Gonto and work in her service. Then you must go through the purification ritual, which consists of fasting for a whole day--"

"Whoa, nope, you lost me there," Pearl interrupts. "Sorry, I'm not interested in being a priest and I definitely don't want to starve myself. I thought maybe you wanted me to be like, your bookkeeper or chronicler or maybe just as an entertainer. I could do that, but like I said before, I'm not even a follower of Gonto."

"Thanks you, Leena, Naras answered, nodding to Leans, before continuing," Pearl, it's fine. I said I would try to help you and that was part of it. It's okif you don't want to go in that direction. However, you nicely mention something that I also had in mind - entertainer." She looked back at Leena, "How do you think an entertainer would fit in or help at the event*?"

"That seems wildly inappropriate," Leena answers. "The Day of Tragedy is a solemn holiday, not one of mirth and music. But also, it's in three months. Surely you aren't suggesting putting her on the roster and paying her for nothing until then?" she asks, eyeing the halfling warily.

=============

(OOC: From my earlier post:)
"The Day of Tragedy, in just under three months," Leena answers. The Day of Tragedy is a day of mourning common to the islands; it commemorates the Carnage War and all the lives lost, although in more recent times it is used to mourn any who have died in the past year, as well. There's fasting and lots of wearing black. It's a very solemn holiday. "We usually get quite a few visitors that day to the tomb, and can make a decent amount of coin selling grace." Selling grace, a common practice among followers of Gonto, is the idea that by donating extra coin to the church, the living can speed up the process of the dead getting to the next life.

"I was thinking more of an arts and crafts school on the temple grounds," Naras backpedals. "I want to rasie an armour-crafter's facility on the temple grounds," she adds, changing the subject.
The dwarf id content to let the conversation drop until they get back to town.

When they get back to town, the kohen leads them to the half-orc weaponsmith's place, hoping to catch him. She knocks on the door, and sees if it's open...

"It's very ambitious at this stage, but if we can bring in more coin it should be possible," Leena admits.

They continue on through the farmlands in silence until they finally get back to the town as the sun sets. Before they reach the weaponsmith's shop, though, they are stopped by a pair of dwarven wardens. The three of them are quite conspicuous, carrying two wagons that contain a dead body, a tied up man who has been badly beaten, enough weapons to arm a small army and a warden's helmet.

"Excuse me," says one of the wardens, the male of the two. "But just what the Nine Hells is all of this?"

"Its a rescue party," replies Naras, putting down the cart. "Leagers, non-residents all, kidnapped my elderly actolyte, Agnas, who you may recognise as a respected member of this community," the dwarf adds, indicating the dead lady. "From the way the Leaguers did it, I feared there was imminent threat to her life. She was taken out to the Cinderfell mine, the Leaguers' hideout. So we set out to rescue her but were too late, the Leaguers had already beaten her to death. We captured this one though," she explains, indicating the other prone figure, "and were bringing him in to the you, the Wardens. The Leaguers were very aggressive. We had to defend ourselves numerous times. I spotted a warden's helmet laying around and was bringing it in you in case either they'd captured one of your people or, worryingly, in case the Leaguers were planning to try and infiltrate into your organisation, if not having already done so. I was going to leave Agnas at the temple so that her body can be reverently prepared for its final rest and thereafter come to you. They said something about starting a war on this Island."

"The League? A war?" asks the female of the two wardens, trying to follow all of this. "I think you better come with us back to the fortress for questioning."

"If you think it's wise to risk having been infiltrated by the League, and don't mind them knowing they've been rumbled, by all means, lead on", Naras replies.

The wardens escort them back to their headquarters and all three of them are interrogated (separately and together) by half a dozen officers, and finally, the High Warden herself. Naras herself is particularly under suspicion, as she literally only arrived that day and then got involved in all of this. But her being a kohen seems to really help her image; she suspects that were she not a church official, they probably would have locked her up just to be safe.

She is given a stern lecture about taking the law into her own hands and they confiscate the warden helm but thankfully (after some debate) decide not to confiscate everything else in the wagons 'for evidence.' They do lock up the Leaguer for further questioning, and to have a trial in a few months.

By the time Naras, Leena and Pearl are allowed to leave, the sun has already begun to rise. It's morning now.

"You both ok?" Naras asks Leena and Pearl. They compare notes on the way back to the temple, with the dwarf maneuvreing the heavier cart.
Aware that they're been up somthing like 24 hours, she says, "I'm sure we're all hungry and tired. Pearl, stay over with us if you want. If you're happy with it, we can sort out the cash when we've had some sleep and I've sold this this metalwork here. Where's the most convenient place to get some food on the way back to the temple?"

They buy two days' food for themsleves (and Otaya), sending Pearl off on a side trip if necessary.
Back at the temple, while they eat they take it in turns to update Otaya and Naras burns any letter that had been prepared to protect the other three from prosecution in the case that she'd died in the mine andthey hadn't. Naras puts the stuff they've brought back, excluding Agnas and the carts, into the temple vault and moves Agnas to the area reserved for the dead.

"I will Speak to Agnas later," the dwarf tells Otaya, after Pearl and Leena have gone to rest. "Will you be able to clean her up and so forth? Apart from us causing you worry, has everyhting been ok with you and the temple? Anything cropped up?"

Although she's as tough as the bedrock, the kohen was starting to feel a bit tired, but she said a prayer over Agnas, commending her for her years of service and that she would be called on one more time later in the day before being recieved into Gonto heart. More pressing than the need for sleep was Naras's need to represh her spells. After asking Otaya if anything has been lost around the temple, even as simple as a kitchen knife or map, casts "Locate Object", accordingly, although primarily just to free up her spall-casting faculties, and vacates 'Prot Evil' too. Before going to bed, she gives her bloodied armour to Otaya, adding "If you have some time, please give this a bit of a clean up. Can you wake me at xx o'clock?"

[OOC: xx o'cock = after elapsed time to be able to regain L3 spells. Is that 6 hours? Or..?]

The three stop at a food vendor on the way to the temple, buying a week's worth of rations for 10 gold pieces to be split up among them for the next two days and with one meal left over.

They then return to the temple and sit down and eat while Otaya tells them what happened while they were gone. "It was all very quiet," she says between mouthfuls. "We didn't even get any visitors while you were gone."

Naras heads to bed at around 7 AM and sleeps for 6 hours, waking up at 1 PM. She then spends the next 3 and a half hours praying for new spells, so it is around 4:30 PM by the time she finishes. She finds her armor has been cleaned and buffed by Otaya, ready and waiting for her when she is done.

Having put her armour on, the dwarf finds Otaya and says "You've done a great job on the armour, thank you."
After an extremely late breakfast, she asks, "How are we all today? Does anyone need Curng?"

Naraas head down and into the vault and looks for magic on all of the things brought back from the mine (using both Detect Magic dweomers if necessary) and then follows that with a 2.Find Traps spell, primarily on magical items and any written materials. She carefully placed the potion, wand & scroll in the vault, then loads up one of the carts, locks the vault behind her and heads off to the weaponsmith's place. "I'm off to the weaponsmith's place, folks," she anounces to her colleagues in the temple. The kohen places the forging book in the library and the dwarf's journal beside her bed.

Upon finding the armourer, the kohen picks up a shortbow* & sheathed longsword* and says, "Greetings, Roken! Would you have a look at these and tell me if they're anything special?"
After listening to his reply, she points at the looted cartload and enquires, "How much would you give me for this lot?"
Finally, she asks Roken, "Do you have a better buckler for sale than this one? Or a better shield for sale than this one?" She indicates her own (ordinary) buckler and the looted Masterwork small shield. Naras thinks, ~I'll sell whichever shield I don't keep~ "Or,even, better armour (that'll fit me) than the armour I'm wearing, but doesn't weigh any more? The same type of armour but weighing a bit less would be a good alternative..."
=========
OOC: Naras would have voluntarily handed over the picks she had when at the Wardens' place, "These aren't legal, you'd better take these." I think she had about 15 picks, but not important.
OOC: If any Traps are detected (not expecting any, but you never know), then that item will be put aside, with a label reading "trapped", for sorting out another time.
OOC: Items subjected to 1.Detect Magic that doesn't go to the armourer's place (having put aside anything Trapped):
OOC: Items for sale to the armourer
battle axe, worth 25 GP (masterwork).
great sword, worth 50 GP.
long sword, worth 15 GP.
