"I'm back," the dwarf announced. "Nice tune, Pearl."
She paused, "Sold all the hardware. Talking of which, can I have those sling bullets and the standard rations back, please? Oh and when's a good time to talk money?"
***
When Pearl is happy to talk money, Naras says, "Pearl, you might want to sit down. Remember you said you'd eaned 6GP in the last year? Well you've doen a bit better than that. Your share is 270GP. How do you want it? Just cash? Or a mix of gems and cash? And if you wish to make a donation to the temple, we would be please to accept it on behalf of Gonto. I you wiished to make a more substantial donation, then I'm sure we could come to an arrangement for some appropriate dscounts on healing or whatever."

Pearl is nearly floored at the amount. "Holy crap, that's...that's amazing!" she exclaims. "I could hop the next boat to anywhere I want. I could visit all of the islands, if I wanted. I could visit home in Sanctuary or maybe take a vacation on Hashadeth--I hear it's great this time of year and they say all the great fashion trends start in Tu'Valie," she rambles on. "I could get a new outfit there, maybe several!"

"There's some more bits and pieces that I haven't been able to work out yet, but this is still a tidy sum. If that comes to anything extra, I'll get back to you, assuming your're still one the island or else let us know how to contact you. Now, how do you want it? A mix of gems and cash? It's a lot of coinage to carry around - quite conspicuous, too!" Naras adds. "And you might want to consider a donation to the temple, we would be pleased to accept it on behalf of Gonto." Naras smiles. Veneration of Gonto always feels good. "If it were a substantial donation, then I'm sure we could come to an arrangement for some appropriate discounts in the future on healing or other spells.. Or you could always consder investing in an armourer's facility that I'm planning on the temple grounds. It is a bit specualtive, and might come to nothing. But even so, most merchant princes today once started off something like that," she smiles even more broadly, clearly taken with the idea. She refocuses on Pearl. "So, what's your answer?"

"Oh, right, well coin or gems, whatever works," Pearl says. "Gems are pretty, but coins you can roll around in, so either is good."

Naras extracts a small red red - a ruby - and gives it to Pearl, adding "This is worth 200GP. If I sell it to Hubert, he will only give me 180GP. If you manage to get more than 200GP out of him for it, then that's all yours. Do not accept less than 180GP from him. If he gives you somewhere between 180GP and 200GP then bring the reciept from him to me and I will make up the difference. I'm testing to see if it's just me that he is undergenerous with. If you get more than 180GP then there may be some modest additional cash for all of us, but maybe only the price of a decent meal. Anyway, bring me the receipt and I will sort it out." She rumages around for a minute or two and then counts out 70GP to Pearl. "There you are, don't spend it all at once. And here's a signed note stating that this was issued by the temple for legitimate services rendered in the servie of Gonto, just in case the Wardens think you've aqcuired the money is a less legal way."

The dwarf pauses while Pearl puts her new wealth away, and then asks, "Please can I have the sling bullets and food [OOC: standard raions, 4 days] back?"
When that is done, she bows to Pearl, "Thank you for your help."

After Pearl has departed, Naras asks the acolytes, "Did Agnas leave a Last Will & Testament? Expression of Wishes document? Anything indicating what she wanted to happen to her worldly possesions?"

She led the way down to the crypt, commanding "Show me which of these requires a Glyph to be cast on it. There were two outstanding, if I recall correctly."

After accepting the gem and coin and returning Naras her belongings, Pearl gets to her feet. "I'm going to check out the docks and see when the next ship is leaving. Then I'll go visit Hubert. Hopefully he doesn't try and grope me this time." She heads out.

Leena nods to Naras. "I took the liberty of pulling her will from our files while you were sleeping." She pulls a scroll out and unfurls it. "She wishes...I mean, she wished for her body to be interred here at the temple. I've already taken the liberty of having her placed down there. She gave most of her worldly possessions to her granddaughter when she joined the church. She has a trunk of personal belongings here at the temple. Mostly just old clothes and things like that. Nothing of value and most of it was supplied by the church in the first place."

Leena silently obeys Naras' command to escort her down to the tomb. At the far end of the hall are the two bodies that have not been warded yet, plus Agnas' body, which also has not been warded yet.

===========

Naras gives Pearl a ruby (200 GP) and 70 GP.
Pearl gives Naras sling bullets and rations.
Naras is now in moderate encumbrance.

The kohane nods, "Good work, Leena. So what does the will say? Does she leave all her money to her granddaughter? Or..? For imternment, is there normally a change for this? And for the placement of a glypg too?"
After hearing the acolyte's reply, che cast an appropriate Glyph [OOC: Paralysation?] on the body that has been oustanding such the longest.

"She left what little coin she had to the church," Leena replies. "Generally, we charge 500 gold coins for both internment and the glyph. Or rather, we did under the old kohen. We've been holding them for free for now, until the new kohen arrived to place the glyphs and decide on the price."

Of the three unprotected bodies, the young boy who died of a fever, Ceril, is the oldest (a month ago), with Old Man Weatherby being over two weeks ago and Agnas having died quite recently.

=========

Naras casts Glyph of Warding (Paralyzation) on the alcove for the body of the young boy, Ceril.

!I see, so a single payment of 500GP covers both the internment and the glyph, then? Not each?" Naras enquires, never before having had to deal with such matters. "With fees like those, how is it that the temple has so little coin? And will Ceril's family or estate now be making a 500GP payment?"
Whilst listening to Leena's answers, she moves to Agnas and starts to prepare for casting Speak with Dead by lighting some incense.
=========
OOC: if the material component (burning incense) is a problem, can we assume the temple had enough for one casting and when Naras buys some more to replace it, she gets overcharged by 100%. (Effectively paying for both but 1 lot retrospectively.) Or is it covered under the 1g/level/month mundane spell component costs as the spell doesn not cite a value of the incense?

"Five hundred covers both," Leena explains. "And as I've explained before, we haven't had a kohen in three months. None of us acolytes can cast Glyph of Warding and the old kohen cleaned out the vault funding his expeditions."

In response to her last question, Leena answers, "You'll need to meet with his family about that. I'm sure they can afford it, they are fairly wealthy. Indeed, I suspect that if we had a kohen at the time of their son's illness, they would have easily paid for a Remove Disease to save him."

=============

(OOC: We can assume Naras has incense as part of her spell components.)

"Thank you, Leena. I will try and meet with them. Tomorrow you can show me on the map where they live. Please remind me," the dwarf responds. "I now intend to 'Speak to Agnas' and am thinking of asking her 'what did she learn from the gang that kidnapped that would be useful or relevant to our temple' and 'does she want all of her possession & money to go the temple.' Do you have any improvements to those questions? Or anything else that you feel should be asked instead?"

"I am not overly familiar with the prayer, as I've never been able to use it myself," Leena admits. "I cannot offer any advice, I'm afraid. Those questions sound fine to me."

Naras casts Speak with Undead on Agnas and asks her:
'what did you learn from the gang that kidnapped you that would be useful or relevant to our temple?' and
'do you want all of your possession & money to go the temple?'.

Naras prays to Gonto to summon back the departed spirit of Agnas. A ghostly image of the elderly woman appears above the body, floating eerily over it. She looks just like she did in life, but her eyes have no pupils and she is rather transparent.

Naras asks her first question, "What did you learn from the gang that kidnapped you that would be useful or relevant to our temple?"

The spirit pauses as if in thought, then answers with a hollow, echoing voice. "Nothing."

Naras then asks her second question, "Do you want all of your possessions and money to go to the temple?"

This answer comes much quicker than the last. "Yes," the spirit replies. It then fades from sight, disappearing back into the ether without any further ado.

"That removes any uncertainties there, then," Naras says, evidently satisfied. "If you and Otaya, between you, can prepare Agnas for internment, I will place the Glyph on her and Old Man Weatherby in, I think, 2 days from now. Does Mr Weatherby's estate or familt have to means to pay for this, namely 500GP?"
After listening to the reply, the kohan requests, "Thank you. I need to pray now. Please come and see me my rooms two hours from now."
***
Naras goes to the temple's most holy area and prays, ~Gonto guide me, I try to craft a stronger temple to glorify your aspect and to foster and grow crafting on this island. Please forgive my my methods. Great Gonto, I would pray for your enlightenment to protect those deceased from the depredations of the necromantic arts. On this I will meditate and pray for your guidance."
***
After a couple of hours of prayer, the dwarf returns to her rooms and reads some of the dead dwarf's journal, waiting for Leena to appear.
When Leena appears, "How are you feeling Leena?"

This spell can be detected by Detect Magic and removed by Dispel Magic. Corpses being enchanted into a more powerful form of undead are granted a saving throw based on thier prior level/HD & class. Success means it can never be animated as any type of undead thereafter.
