"I learned long ago the dangers of trusting men--any man," Malika says. "And you are hardly the first one to claim he is 'different' from the others, and preach about honor, virtue and whatever. But...we'll see what happens. It's a long way to Palanthas, so you'll have plenty of chances to prove me wrong."

[Jerrard]

"I hope to do just that." He says resolutely, "I am different, you will see."

"Anyway," not letting go of her hand he smiles. "Tell me, if you were to do anything, what would you do?"

"If I could be anything, do anything? I'd be a noble lady; a baroness or countess--maybe even a queen. I'd live in a huge castle with a massive estate and I'd be so rich and powerful, my servants would have servants of their own. I'd be famous throughout the world and have enough steel to choke a dragon. That's my dream," Malika says, starry-eyed.

[Jerrard]

"You want to be known? For people to know your name and hold you in high regard?" He strokes her hand and nods, "Either because you wish them to fear you, or you wish to be loved."

"That is what you were trying to do before the Khan caught you, there is another way. Help us, do something good."

"Allow me to train you, to channel your magic, perhaps I can teach you some new spells, and to use your blade." He says as he moves back, not touching her again.

"Do something good?" Malika asks, skeptical. "That's pretty vague. How exactly will that make me rich and powerful? Isn't that all you guys do all day? And none of you are exactly lords and ladies of the court, at least that I can see."

[Jerrard]

"Yes you would be correct in that assumption, we are not either, but personally that is not my aim, Wizards of The White Robes seek Knowledge wisdom, and protection." He says softly, keeping his voice low. "We do not seek power, that is the job of the Black Robes."

"As for Babuskha, I feel she seeks peace, Imani wants to get her son back, Jeremy is unknown to me..." He looks at the sleeping Kender near him. "And Who knows what Locky wants, who knows what any Kender wants."

"If I wanted power, I would aim for it, right now I am.. Somewhat..." He blushes, hiding his head. "I am without direction, I knew who I was before I met these." He waves his hand encompassing the group, "Before I met them I was on the path to Knowledge, the road was smooth.. But my Masters thought I was missing something, so the sent me to the Village of Buho, to.... Find myself." He smiles, "And I did, I found I believed in what was right.. It was my Test."

"You are of course going to ask me what all this means, aren't you." He says raising his hand to what he imagined was a protest. "Our paths are not always what we plan them to be, sometimes we have to see where the road leads us.

"Well, we'll see then," Malika says. "I suppose you can try and teach me a few things, but don't get any ideas of me joining your order or anything. I'm a free spirit, after all." She yawns and stretches. "Isn't it time for the next watch yet? I can barely keep my eyes open."

[Jerrard]

"I have no such illusions of you joining the orders, but some formal training may aid you to grow... Perhaps." Giving her a nod he taps the bed roll, "Sleep I will deal with the last of the watch, while you need no beauty sleep you are not used to this. Will you take watch with me again, and we can try to develop your skills?"

(Jerrard will take what is left of the watch alone, and then wake Thuskar and Jeremy.)

Malika agrees and returns to sleep.

The remainder of the watch passes uneventfully, as does the third and fourth watches, as well.
