CH 1: This Place Sucks

"I thought you said you were pilgrims," the owl says. "Aren't you all people of faith then?"

[HorizonsDream]

"They are," Echo says. "I'm not. I'm being paid to be here," she explains.

[JadedDM]

"Hooo, so you don't have any faith yourself?" the tawny owl asks, tilting its head again.

[HorizonsDream]

"Well, not the same faith that they have," Echo says. "I don't follow the teachings of Gonto."

[JadedDM]

"Hooo, hooo, whoooo do you follow then?" the owl asks cheekily, flapping its wings a bit.

[HorizonsDream]

"Why do I feel like I've had this conversation before?" Echo says most to herself before she answers the owl. "Renos."

[JadedDM]

"Renos? Kewick! What an interesting choice, that is. It must be very disconcerting to be around so many followers of Gonto then, hooo! I bet you're learning lots then!" the owl proclaims, spreading its wings.

[HorizonsDream]

"Well, I am actually. Though, the whole idea that we are all one be team in this world seems...naive to me."

[JadedDM]

"Hoooo, but it worked in your favor, right? After all, your friend came to save you from the wolves," the little owl points out.

[HorizonsDream]

"I wouldn't really call her a friend," Echo says. "We didn't exactly get off on the right foot, but she did come to help me. I thanked her for it."

[JadedDM]

"Good, good," the owl comments. "I have a feeling you will learn even more given some more time. For the time being, though, you should get some sleep. Big day tomorrow, I would wager! Hoooo!" And with that, it hops between the flaps of the tent and takes off.

Echo shakes her head, wondering silently to herself if she just had a dream. "Hmm, I wonder what he meant," she says to herself. Realizing that she didn't finish her studies, she picks up her spellbook, and continues with it before she goes back to sleep.
