FC0 - CH 1: Goblin Raid

"Or not," Tavi says. Drawing her sword, she steps through the bush and attacks the goblin on the right. Having never fought live creatures before, Tavi finds it hard to deal with the movement, and her sword slashes harmlessly against the goblin's armor.

The goblin squeals as it narrowly avoids getting sliced open. Both of the creatures quickly pick up their shields and hastily strap them on, now ready to fight properly against the human woman.

"You probably stole those," Tavi mutters hatefully as she goes in for another slash at the goblin. Now that she was use to the movement, she slashes at the same goblin again. The sword cuts deeply into the goblin's midsection. Without a second though, she turns to the second goblin, slashes him across the chest.

Within moments, Tavi's first battle is all ready over. The two goblins lay dead at her feet, her sword dripping with their black blood.

Tavi stands there, slightly stunned as to what had actually happened. Then she smiles widely and suppresses the urge to yell out for joy. She actually managed to accomplish something! Slowly, she sets the lantern down and checks over the goblin's bodies to see if they have anything on them other than their weapons, armor, and shields.

Searching their corpses, Tavi finds two crude maces, two wooden bucklers, two small sized leather armors (damaged), a pair of dice, a moldy loaf of bread, a foul-smelling waterskin, and 24 silver pieces.

As she sorts through the loot and decides what to take and what to leave, a thought occurs to her. Why were there two goblins out here, on their own? Normally goblins worked in larger groups than this. The only explanation for why there were only two is if they were merely lookouts or scouts for a larger party.

Tavi pockets the twenty-four silver, and leaves the rest to rot as she moves to pick up her lantern. "Scouts...not too far from home," she mutters softly to herself. "Not good. I have to warn them," she says, turning to make her way back home. She couldn't let a party of goblins take away what little they had all ready. Though, she knew she was going to get her butt busted for doing what she did tonight.

Pocketing the silver, Tavi starts heading back as quickly as she can, the light of her lantern bouncing up and down as she runs.

When she finally returns home, however, to her horror she finds her house is on fire! Actually, she realizes it's the barn that's on fire, but as the barn is attached to the house, it's only a matter of time before it spreads. She hears glass breaking and a girl's scream, possibly one of her sisters, coming from the house. She also hears a man's voice, cursing. It seems to be coming from the barn.

She spots a goblin just outside of the barn, mesmerized by the pretty flames. There's a second goblin over by the front door, looking around, likely serving as some kind of lookout. Neither has seemed to notice her yet, although her lantern will likely give her away if she doesn't put it away. It's hardly necessary anymore, with the light of the fire.

Tavi's eyes widen as she takes in the scene before. This simply could NOT be happening. What did her family do to ever deserve this type of harsh life?! Without a second though, Tavi snuffs out the lantern. Quickly, she pulls out her shield, and charges at the look out goblin by the house with her sword at the ready. How dare they do this to her family!

Coming upon the goblin, she quickly slashes her sword at the vile creature in anger. The sword cuts deeply into the goblin, leaving a trail of black blood upon the ground.

Drawing sword and shield, Tavi charges her opponent at full speed. The goblin guarding the front door is alert and sees her coming. Only then does Tavi notice there is a horn on its belt. It quickly fumbles for the horn, but there's no time. Instead, it pulls out its spear, but it's too late. Tavi slices through the lookout almost completely, splattering her studded armor with black blood.

The front door is now clear to enter. The goblin by the barn never notices a thing, as it's busy watching the flames with glee.

(A tie! A long sword has a speed of 5 and a spear a speed of 6, so I'll let Tavi go first.)

Tavi attacks the Goblin Lookout with her long sword (19, hit) for 11 damage. Goblin Lookout dies.

Combat ends.

Not caring what the goblin might be carrying, Tavi enters her home with her sword still at the ready. Her father was in the barn, so she was going to have to be quick about this. Hopefully, Lindsey could take care of whatever was going on out there by himself for the time being. Right now, her mother, sisters, and grandmother were more important.

She takes a quick look around from where she entered the house. The whole time, her mind was screaming that this was some sort of horrible nightmare, and she would wake up any minute now.

Inside, the house was a wreck. Stepping into the living room, Tavi found the couch had been overturned and a number of books had been pulled from the bookshelf. The fireplace was, oddly enough, lit with a number of firebrands sticking out of it.

The doors to the bedroom and kitchen were wide open. There was no sign of her family in this room, but there were two goblins. One was going around break windows with his mace for no apparent reason. The second one was at the bookcase, using a firebrand to set the books on fire...again, for no apparent reason. Both turn and face her when she bursts in, a look of momentary surprise upon both of their faces. Dropping the torch, the second one draws a short sword.

(A tie? Again? Well, your long sword has a speed of 5, while the spear and mace have speeds of 6, so looks like initiative goes to Tavi.)

Without hesitating, Tavi moved upon the goblin that was setting fire to the book case first, as he was the closest to her. With a quick movement, she slashes the goblin from shoulder to naval. She was growing more accurate each time she faced one of the creatures. Of course, her anger was growing the more she faced the goblins as well, especially with what they were doing with her home.

Once again, Tavi slices into her opponent like a hot knife through butter, splattering its black blood on the floor, her sword, and her armor. The second goblin leaps over the couch and swings his mace, but Tavi blocks the clumsy blow with her shield.

At this point, Tavi hears screams. One is coming from the kitchen, the other from her bedroom.

Tavi turns to face the new goblin, trying her hardest to ignore the screams for the moment. "Hold on, guys. I'm coming!" she calls out as she slashes out with her sword again. Though, the goblin narrowly avoids the slashes, her sword bouncing harmlessly off his armor.
