Tanis easily cuts down another opponent, ignoring the hobgoblin blood that splatters on him.

With a grunt, Flint cuts down another opponent, as well. Tasslehoff, however, seems to still be toying with his single opponent.

Tanis avoids the first two retaliation strikes against him, but takes a nasty cut across his shoulder from the third hobgoblin. Flint does likewise, avoiding two strikes but getting hit the third time. Tas easily evades his opponent, laughing and mocking the pig-nosed brute the whole time. "Come on, you cross eyed, flee infested, buck toothed, gully dwarf!"

Seeing an opening, Flint turns and cuts down one of Tanis' opponents from behind. "I'm getting too old for this crap!" the dwarf grumbles, turning his attention back to his own enemies.

With a battle cry, Tanis cuts down another hobgoblin with his bloodied blade. Flint, not one to be outshone, swings his axe in an underhand motion, driving the blade up between one of his opponent's legs. With a whimper, the creature falls over.

Tas was having less luck. He thrust the spear point of his hoopak at his only opponent, but the hobgoblin parried with his blade so hard, the hoopak was knocked from the kender's hands. "Oops!" he says, now unarmed.

"Come on, men! We can still win this!" shouted one of the hobgoblins in Common, who had until now stayed out of the fight. He was the biggest of them, likely their leader. "We still outnumber them! You want to lose to a kender and a dwarf?" he demands, drawing his blade and going for Tanis.

Their morale renewed, the hobgoblins give it their all. Tas ducks and weaves about, avoiding his opponent entirely as he searches his pouches for another weapon. Tanis parries the leader's first blow, but takes a cut in the left thigh from the second.

Poor Flint is the worst off, as he has two opponents on different sides. Whenever he turns to face one, he exposes his back to the other. He takes two hits as a result, and starts swearing in his own language. In Common he adds, "I could use some help over here!"

Rushing to his friend's aid, Tanis quickly cuts down one of Flint's opponents. The dwarf grumbles a word of thanks, before continuing to fight the second opponent.

Tasslehoff, now unarmed, quickly whips out a dagger (that looks suspiciously like the one Flint was just using to carve wood) and hurls it at the hobgoblin he's fighting. It sinks into the hob's neck, up to the hilt. Clawing at his neck and stumbling about, the hobgoblin falls. "Take that, pig face!" the kender taunts.

Tanis notes there are only two hobgoblins left as he parries another blow. Flint's opponent seems to notice this, too, as he tries to turn and run. Flint isn't having any of that, though, and cuts down the hob from behind with his axe.

The last hobgoblin, Tanis' opponent and their leader, refuses to back down despite the odds. "You will turn over the Blue Crystal Staff, or else! I will not let Onyx down!" he cries, swinging his sword forward and cutting into the half-elf's left shoulder.

Tanis roars in pain and anger, and attempts to cut the hobgoblin down with a horizontal slash. He makes a note of the things they have said, especially including this 'Onyx' character.

The hobgoblin seems to have entered some kind of frenzied state of mind. Despite all odds, he refuses to give up or flee. He parries Tanis' blow with his own long sword. Flint leaps over the corpse of a hobgoblin and comes at him from another angle, but he parries that attack, as well.

Tasslehoff retrieves his hoopak, then slings a couple of rocks, but the hobgoblin ducks to avoid both of them.

"I AM INVINCIBLE!" he screams, waving his blade in the air like a maniac. Maybe it was the sweat on his hands, maybe it was the blood. Whatever the case, the blade flies right out of his hand and lands a few feet away on the ground.

The hobgoblin's next word is unsuitable for print.

Tanis lunged at the now unarmed hobgoblin "Ok filth, tell me who this Onyx is. And what is this Blue Crystal Staff you are looking for?" he held his blade close to it.

Tas helps Flint bandage his wounds while Tanis interrogates the remaining hobgoblin.

"Onyx is our leader," he says, glaring at the half-elf defiantly. We were given orders to search the roads at night for a staff made of blue crystal. I know nothing else than that."

Tani ponders the hobgoblin's words for a moment then says "Leave your armor and weapons. There is no crystal staff in Solace, blue or otherwise." he keeps his sword trained on the hobgoblin while it sheds its gear and gives it a slap with the flat of his blade to send it running.

The hobgoblin runs off, disappearing into the woods. Meanwhile, Tas busies himself looting the fallen bodies. He finds the dagger he threw earlier, pulling it out of the dead hobgoblin. Sniffing at it, he grimaces. "Ruined. You can never get the smell out again, you know."

Flint approaches Tanis somberly. "You handled that well, lad. I see you've grown in these past five years. Hobgoblins in Solace...I never thought I'd see the day."

Tanis nods to the dwarf. "We better get into town, before anything else happens." He glances to Tas and sees him still gagging over the stained dagger. "Just throw it away, Tas," he suggests before setting off.

Flint and Tas are right behind him. "Oh, I couldn't do that," the kender exclaimed. "It's Flint's dagger, after all!"

"What?! You rotten doorknob!" the dwarf shouted, his face turning red.

Shaking his head, Tanis led the way toward Solace, hoping his friends were there waiting, safe and sound.
