Ok, we am away from tomorrow morning (28th) until the following sunday (4th Nov) at the earliest.

Off to my brothers wedding, which means traveling and no reliable internet.

We might find time to post on my phone but I am unsure as to how much I will be able to do this.

Jerrard wasnt actually going to cast the spell yet, I said "Prepare to cast." Not actually cast! He had planned to wait, but what's done is done..

Wait for what, though? The spell lasts over an hour, so surely you weren't worried it would expire before they got inside the cave?

Not really, but like i said, doesnt really matter, was just explaining why he cast it with Imani so close.

Seriously, you couldn't just let the dice slide once?

This really should have been expected. The spell description is quite clear that when the caster is weaker than the person who made the original enchantment, the odds of it succeeding go down. If it's the other way around, the odds go up. (If both of are equal power, it's 50/50.)

To be perfectly honest, I was under no obligation to allow a dice roll at all. The spell shouldn't have worked anyway, and I put serious thought into not allowing you to even have the 20% chance you got. But I ultimately decided it wouldn't matter either way, so I gave you a dice roll.

The spell that was cast on the stone (Stoneshape) is already done. There is nothing to dispel, as the magic has already been spent. In the same way that if Locky casts Dispel Magic on someone who had just received a Cure Light Wounds, they would not lose those HP again (or using it on someone who was raised from the dead, they would not just die again).

I am not going to move things around, break rules and fudge dice so that every plan the party comes up with automatically succeeds regardless. That's how I used to run games back when I was younger, and all it did was encourage the players to stop putting any thought into their actions, never coming up with contingency plans, and to just stop caring about the outcome of anything altogether.

To be honest, I'm getting pretty frustrated, too.

Maybe we should have a serious discussion on whether we need to retool this game in some way, or to just shut it down since everyone seems to be dissatisfied with it.

I like this game, I enjoy playing Locky and without her I would be slightly lost.

Shutting down this game would be really unfair, quite honestly, all of us have invested time into these characters and stopping now would be really bad.

Ok, first, how was I supposed to know the level of a Dragon?? Honestly?
Secondly, I guessed, I didn't know the spell used, locky doesnt have spell craft and to her it looked like a spell.

Have we as a group ever seemed like we don't put 100% into every action we do? What Jerrard was asking for was not to give us the answer, or just let us succeed everything, just accept that we are also playing this to have fun, hitting brick walls is not fun.

So the spell didn't work, well it was a long shot, much like Locky trying to break the curse, we were lucky with that one and I accept that.

Ok, I like this game, I like Jerrard and I enjoy the challenges it gives.

Jaded, you are a Good DM, I like your style and open nature is fun.

Like Jen says, a break would be nice now and then, dont answer the problems, we like solving things, dealing with them, makes it real.
