CH. 14: Beyond the Veil

"Is it the bracelets appearance that has charmed you so? Or it's personality?" Dahn says with a chuckle.

Jocelyn hands the blue shawl over to Brock. "Here. You can use this more than me."

"Ha ha ha!" Baeros bursts in laughter, still covered in shadows in the dark corner he was waiting in. "You should wrap it on your head! You look like grandma!" Baeros points at Brock. For some reason seeing Jocelyn put the shawl on Brock's shoulders was the perfect cure for his bad mood. He returns to the other smiling wide, his mind distracted completely from the Oni. At least for a short while...

"I see that all interest in the sword he mentioned has been lost then?" Drav says while he moves a bit towards the door.

Ouragana picks up the bracelet. It's cool to the touch.

Brock snarls at Baeros and crumbles up the shawl and tosses it onto the bed. "Let the mage have it. She's the one who wears shawls as it is," he grumbles.

The key and chess piece remain, unclaimed.

Jocelyn rolls her eyes at Baeros, and picks up the shawl again. She tosses it towards Ouragana. "Here," she says. "We should probably move on too," she says as she picks up the key and plug.

Gallath takes the plug from jocylen. "I'll do this, you do the key."

Baeros makes an effort to stop his laughter. "Were you insulted?" he asks Brock, "Why? It fits you. It matches your eyes." and he starts laughing again. After a while when his giggles subsides he say to the elf, "Hey, Gallath, let Thadeus play with the board. After all he was a top chess player and you... hmm... well, have you played this game?"

The party steps out of the bedroom, and back into the hallway. It remains as they left it, largely cluttered with the remains of the helmed horrors they have fought and defeated.

"Where to next?" asks Brock, eager to change the subject.

"Okay, let's find the door that this key goes to."

"Well, this key doesn't work in that door that is all ready open across the way there," Jocelyn says. "So we should probably head back towards the doors we haven't been to yet. Remember to keep your eyes open for traps. "

"Uh, right." Dahn says.
He proceeds down the passage, checking for traps, but letting someone else take the lead.

Ouragana had been so absorbed in the study of the bracelet that she started when the shawl Jocelyn threw her hit her. "What?" she exclaims, but picks it up and drapes it around her shoulders. Then she follows the others out into the hall.

"I guess we should only go looking for a vault when we have looked at everything else, the wywern seems to have put his most dangerous stuff in there, don't you think?" she asks Thaddeus conversationally as she joins him.

"Maybe we can shove the Oni to the vault!" Baeros dark thoughts returns to him as he goes behind the party to guard their backs.

Granite, Jocelyn, Thaddeus, Brock and Ouragana walk back to the middle of the hall, then begin exploring the eastern side. Despite Granite not wanting to take the lead, nobody else does. He searches the floor for any traps, but doesn't see anything suspicious.

Val, Drav and Gallath linger in the bedroom, left behind by the others.

"I guess we should only go looking for a vault when we have looked at everything else, the wywern seems to have put his most dangerous stuff in there, don't you think?"

"I had a similar thought," Thaddeus replies. "If the 'cannon of light' is as dangerous as reported, then it most likely is in this vault. If we can find the vault, we should be able to find the cannon."

"Maybe we can shove the Oni to the vault!"

"Oh, aye?" Brock asks. "Can't wait to hear your cunning plan to trick them into all standing in front of the vault so you can give them a good shove."
