It struck me recently that Jenara and Pixie Chic's characters are called Thelma and Eloise.

Now that I realized that, I can't shake the image of the two of them driving a blue '66 T-Bird off a cliff some time in the future, like in the movie Thelma and Louise.

Well, let me try to describe something perhaps more clearly than I have.

When you came into the courtyard, you found the inner doors open, leaning against the tower walls (and went straight on to the stoney barn).
After you found out that the doors of the inner gate tower are blocked, you went back to the outer gate tower, and the girls climbed the wall to the right of it to get onto the rampart.

Above the wings of the outer gate, you can see windows that look like they belonged to a spiral staircase.

Now please, someone put two and two together...

Yes. And the entrance is hidden in plain sight.
