Act 2, Scene 1: "A Flicker of Hope" (Main Game Thread)

The 2E AD&D Homebrew Sandbox world of Genwald is large, ancient, and magical. There are many undiscovered/untamed places. The Sun Kingdom (European style, Late Medieval Human NG Monarchy) is the basic Campaign area, but PCs can end up anywhere.

The scars of ancient battles of titanic proportions mark the land. Wild magic zones, fantastical terrain, grand adventure, political strife, and even artifacts of wonder await. Choose your part and come make your mark on the world. A wide array of unconventional races and classes are available.

Nocturno rushes to the edge, but cannot see the burrow that Jordek indicates when the gnome joins him back on more stable ground. Neither sound nor motion suggests that anything resides in or currently occupies the burrow.

If Nocturno is convinced that there is nothing there, he will urge the group to cross the bridge.

[You'll have to decide if he thinks there is nothing there ;) but there have been no indications that anything is there right now.]

If Jordek tells him it is empty he is satisfied.

Jordek has told Nocturno exactly what he believes he knows.
There is a hole under the bridge on this side that something lives in.

The elf rolls his eyes. "How deep is the hole? Did you hear anything inside?"

Pausing a moment to think, Jordek then replies "No idea! You'd have to measure it to find that out. I didn't hear anything either." After another moments thought he adds encouragingly "I'm pretty sure it is fairly fresh though if that helps."

With a sigh Nocturno will lower himself down the bank.

"Umm.. we could just cross the bridge..." Jordek suggests as it becomes clear to him the elf intends to investigate.

He looks at the gnome as if he has two heads. You know what lives under bridges... " He will sigh. And give the motions of allowing the gnome to lead on.

Sherfan coughs and addresses the pair. So... is it safe? Are we going?

Jordek jumps as his contemplation is broken. "Safe? Um... Maybe. Probably. Depends on if who or what lives in the hole is home and is friendly or hungry or likes company or kills strangers or makes tea for strangers or is sleeping or is not home or if we go visit or if we..." he trails off as he realizes he is rambling. He takes a breath and tries again "Going, yes we should do that. Quietly though. And maybe quickly as well. In case whatever may be in that hole is napping. I mean I get cranky when I get woken from a nap." He pauses again and then nods affirmatively saying "Right. Let's go." as he turns to lead the group over the bridge trying to be as quiet as he can.

Jordek leads the group carefully onto the bridge, thoughts of all kinds of possibilites of terribleness emerging unbidden to his mind...
Disaster fails to befall the group as they cross safely to the opposite side.

Once across, Sherfan brightens visibly and even Dirk seems a little more hopeful. At this rate, we'll be home by supper! Hahaa, he nudges the human gently. It's only another ten miles or so from here... Have you guys ever been to Bordertown? he asks the Elf and Gnome.

"Ah yes of course! I knew the silly gnome was worrying about nothing!" Mostly covering his own uneasiness of the lair beneath the bridge.

Jordek replies quickly without having to think about the answer "Nope! Never been. What's it like? Is it nice?"
