I spoke with HorizonsDream, and she's in.

Here are my rolls.

Here are hers.

These are unmodified and unarranged. We're still hammering out what we want to play. I'm thinking of a specialist mage (not sure what kind yet, but possibly Abjurer or Enchanter) and she's considering a mage, too. Maybe we and Kim can form a club.

So are we talking core only, or are splatbooks allowed for kits, spells, equipment, proficiencies, etc.? And if so, which ones?

Speaking of spells, how many do we start with if we're mages, and do we need to roll to learn them?

(It might be a good idea if those of us playing mages coordinate on spells. That way, we can swap them in-game with each other. :D)

Re-rolled Kim - and got a completely different set of figures.

invisiblecastle.com/roller/search/860757 (Jaded, could you tell me how to hide the links beneath colourful words?)

Maybe I'll find the scrap of paper again where I noted the original stats. Those rolled now are wonderful, and I would love to play a character made with them, but they're not Kim, who was characterized by very high intelligence, average wisdom and low charisma. OK, I probably wouldn't be able to really play a charisma of only 6, so maybe I might re-roll just that or take points away from other stats to make it an 8?

As for Jaded's idea of a trio of mages, that sounds very interesting. Kim is arrogant, but that's meant to impress people and hide the beginner. There's a lot to learn! Especially since I Breila have never played mages before. I could use experienced players to keep me under their wings (not that Kim would ever acknowledge that!)

As for rules, may I plead for core only, as I don't have access to anything else?

First, press the URL button, of course. You'll get this:

(url)(/url)

Except brackets instead of parenthesis.

After the url, type an equal sign and then the link you want to use.

(url=http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/search/860757/)(/url)

Then between the parenthesis, err, I mean the brackets, type the words you want to use.

(url=http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/search/860757/)Click here!(/url)

Finally, highlight the words and pick a font color.

(url=http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/search/860757/)(color=#8000FF)Click here!(/color)(/url)

And the end result is this:

Jen,

I found the scrap of paper I had written the rolls for Kim on, here are his/her stats:
STR 13, DEX 13, CON 12, INT 17, WIS 11, CHA 6.
I'd like to keep them mostly because I built Kim's personality on them. However, I'll probably not manage to play CHA 6 and it would not be plausible he/she became part of a trio of cooperating mages with it. So I propose to transfer one point each of STR and CON to CHA, to keep his/her personality like I played it so far.

The spells he/she came into the adventure with were Audible Glamer, Light and Grease. Elvendar gave him/her scrolls with Detect Magic and Magic Missile, and Burning Hands, if I remember well.

Pending your approval, I'd transfer this to the type of character sheet you provided for Borderlands.

Jenara thanks for doing this! I've read some reviews of Saltmarsh in the past and it sounds awesome...I'm glad to be a part of a little piece of gaming history.

In terms of characters, I was going to attempt to play a Ranger in the Greyhawk game but my rolls dictated otherwise. After the fact, I noticed that in the first couple pages of the Ranger's Handbook, they have a table of pre-generated Ranger stats (10-12, if i recall) that you roll a d10/d12 for. Would there be any way that I roll on this table (via the invisible castle site, of course) and use these? I'm normally the DM-ing type and have always had a hankering for the Ranger class, they're just really hard to get to through the normal dice-rolling channels.

If not, that's totally cool and I'll run with Gunter's stats, I just wanted to make sure first!

From a purely gameplay perspective, if we are going to be running with 3 mages, a cleric, a thief, and a fighter-type, we might have some tough fights. If someone wanted to play a Summoner though... that might even things out. Especially since I have a sneaking suspicion that Searos might be mostly useless in combat seeing as he has a might 9 STR and an equally mighty 9 CON. I'll bet I get in one good sneak attack before I have to run away in terror for fear that the Dire Hedgehog will eat me alive. :P

Well, Monster Summoning I is a third level spell, meaning it won't be available until fifth level, tops. And the scope of this module is level 1-3, although if we go on to do the two sequels, we might hit level 5 at the end.

But if you're worried about melee, remember that we're each getting 300 gold pieces and that a trained war dog only costs 20 gp. Plus, we may be able to pick up some hirelings too, and that a heavy infantry soldier only costs 2 gp per month, according to the DMG.

As the soul melee combatant I say in equal parts: 1.) Bring it on!! and 2.) 2 gp/month = fodder for hire!!

Those are good spells. Makes Kim fairly versatile. Magic Missile and Burning Hands are both good for spike damage, and they improve as you level up. Grease is good for crowd control, and can be devastating if you mix it with fire. Light is a useful utility spell, especially if the party is out of torches or lantern oil, but it can be used as an attack in a pinch, as well. Detect Magic is extremely useful as a utility spell, and one of the Big Three that I think every mage should know (the other two are Read Magic and Identify).

My character is primarily going to focus on enhancement spells, to help boost the abilities of the party. I don't know what kind of spells Horizon will go for yet.

Elvenoff had stated Read Magic was the requisite for every mage to learn, and that there was consensus it had been listed as extra spell by Gary Gigax's mistake.

Woahhhh! People. lol
Between 9am and 9pm well I have a real life, lots to read now.. ;)

Right, yes you can use the sheets, I was planing on posting them at the end of the week, along with all of these rules.

Brelia/Kim: Put her Chr up to 8, and she learn't those spells and they are in her spell book, add Identify ;)
Jaded/?: As per my e-mail, Complete handbooks are acceptable, and the spell compendiums.
Robbo/Gunter: What stats did he fall down on to achieve Ranger status?
MM/Searos: You have two warriors, when Jerrard bothers to get his character posted.

Hirings...? You are going to be in a small fishing village, (which it appears I have to design, woopie!) the chance of finding hirings is going to be rather slim... :D.

You know whats funny? In 3.5 Detect Magic, Read Magic, Even Armor are Cantrips! Spells that can be cast on the fly, no real problem... I think I Might Allow something similar...

Oh, sorry, Jenara I just now checked my email.

==============

So, (could you post this for me? If you click on the post details once its posted you can change it to my name)

Your questions:
I'm happy for the Complete books and the Spell compendiums to be used, I will provide breila with a copy so she doesnt feel left out.

A trio of mages sounds interesting, don't see why not. (Specailists... you may not all be able to share spells because of school conflicts).

Your asking me things that will prompt me to need to set the rules up! lol

Right, starting spells 6 1st level, you can have any from the PHB without learning, the ones from the compendiums i need a learn roll.
Int can be used for Non-weapon proficencies. You can get any of them from the PHB, complete books or Dungeoneers/Wilderness survival guides.

I'd suggest someone has at least a working knowledge of the sea and sailing, but Lenrdras (Jerrards PC) has that covered in a way!! (Dashing fool with a Rapier, not the wisest person I tell you.)

=================

I was going to have my character be from or around Saltmarsh, so I was going to give him Seamanship and Fishing, among other things. So no worries there.

In terms of the +1 weapon or armor...

Does a Ring or Cloak of Protection +1 count if you're a mage and cannot wear armor? How about elven chain mail? It has no bonus, but it allows mages to cast spells while wearing it.

Can the miscellaneous item be any potion or scroll? What about wands?

Jenara -- My stats are:

Str: 18/23
Dex: 15
Con: 12
Int: 9
Wis: 11
Cha: 10

Ranger requires:

Strength 13
Dexterity 13
Constitution 14
Wisdom 14

So I'm a little short in Wisdom and Constitution  but in reading Jaded's earlier post about wanting someone with a familiarity in seafaring/etc. perhaps I could roll that into a ranger character? I say this because I'm reading the Threat From the Deep FR trilogy right now so I'm feeling inspired.

Here's those tables I was referring to earlier:

Table 2: Pregenerated Ability Scores

D12
Roll Str Dex Con Int Wis Cha
1 15 14 17 14 15 10
2 15 15 18 13 14 6
3 14 16 15 14 17 12
4 15 14 15 14 16 9
5 15 15 14 13 15 13
6 16 13 15 13 14 8
7 18* 13 14 15 14 7
8 13 15 15 13 16 10
9 16 13 14 14 17 14
10 13 14 15 16 15 14
11 14 17 14 13 14 15
12 16 13 16 13 14 13
