(Surely this would be one of those instances where "Taking 20" would be more than Applicable?)

EDIT: I say this because Sue has taken FAR more than 2 minutes (the allotted time), has help, hasnt been threatened, there are no penalties for failure, and its obviously based on knowledge he knows...

Oh, I forgot we werent playing 3.5.. I'll go away and crawl into a hole or something.

Sue, Nix and Alecia summarise; thus far it appears that:
• Taffis Bornam was careful man, prepared for violence or fast escape but of dubious private tastes (including peculiar leathers, cloaks & strapwear.) He was a member of the Six Hands gang, who specialise in cargo-theft and smuggling, whose turf is the seawards strip of Dock Ward.
• Bornam’s illicit business, undefined but unlikely to be blackmail, requires repeat payments in the sewers well outside the Six Hands’ turf. The next rendezvous is due day after tomorrow at “the usual time”, presumably 9 Bells (pm). Two Harbour Moons are required.
• Two days later the deceased has an invitation from Yellow Canary to a party at Bird Sanctuary in the Purple Palace. He was to attend as ‘the Red Parrot’.
• Unbeknownst to his illicit business contacts Bornam was assassinated, probably to keep him quiet (turning Lord’s Evidence).
• Sewers are the domain of the City Guard (not the Watch) and entrances are always locked and seemingly ‘minded’ by the dominant gang.
• Taffis was in possession of a silver masculine ring with the front face flattened and an etching picked out in black enamel. This is the symbol of the Minotaurs, a Trades Ward gang, who control River Gate. Having started as muggers & burglars, they reputedly moved on to protection racketeering and smuggling and are allied with the Red Readers.

• A wax-sealed vial has yet to be examined and the cheesy tweezers are still somewhat enigmatic.
• All of the other items appear to have been examined and no further secrets have been discovered.

Is there anything else anyone wants to cover in this discussion before I close this thread and skip forwards a day?

I will cover broad brushstroke intentions for the rest of the current day in private threads and then sweep it up at the start of the next thread. I think Tristen called it pastiche. :)

After the time with these folk, Sue will sigh a bit.

"Strange times, can make strange bedfellows... no no not that kind."

He will pull out the write for the adventuring party.

"I believe this could make our time in public a bit easier. And it would allow me to carry my full armoury without much hassle. Maybe even explain our presence in the sewers, or at least let us get found there, and just kicked out rather than be arrested."

Nix' eye quirks up at the document. Interesting... but...why would a member of the watch need such a thing?

[Any insight checks? ;) ]

"Uh well, this case is about someone who was eliminated while turning evidence. I am officially not officially working on this. But using my tabard will still grant me access to things we will need, I just have to be careful about it.

Copper Cup private booth - Isaril & Nix

The elf stares at the stranger whose hooded cloak masks all but his silver eyes and wavy black hair.
Just as it seems he isn't going to respond, the elf replies in accented common, "What a strange person. The only beings I know are made of flesh or of twigs and leaves. I need to speak with the Nan Darr People. Do you know Nan Darr People? I was told I need to speak with a Mage Sister as well, but I don't know what one of those is."

He stares at the proffered hand for a second and then bows from the waist.

Nix lets the hand fall and bows as well. With the curtain drawn, he lowers his hood to reveal a pair of small spiral-shaped ivory horns; marking him a tiefling. I'm sorry, i do not know who the 'mage sisters' are, nor the Nan Darr people... My patron, one of the Archfey, indicated to me that you might need some aid, and so I have sought you out...

[Chris. Correct me of I'm wrong about Nix not knowing the the Nan Darr]

"Nan Darr" sounds like one of the Waterdavian noble houses. Nix knows that the Nadar Compound is bounded by Delzorn Street & Sulmore Street just east of Brondar's Way.

Do you perhaps mean the Nadar family? They're a noble house here in Waterdeep...

"Na-Dar.. This may be it. They are City Human High Borns, yes. I have tried to speak with them. I must talk with a Mage Sister first...Madge-Sister...Midge-Saster...Illintar said I can speak to one. By getting help from the City Watchers. City Dwellers have complicated social rituals. It is more difficult a Highsummer dance."

You can tell from the Sylvan's trouble pronouncing words that he is not comfortable speaking in common. The way he speaks in short statements gives his voice a strange but punctuated rhythm

The elf appears to take Nix in properly now.

"Greetings, Servant of the Lady of Copper and Crystal. You are an ally of the Lady of Dreams. You are an ally of the Seldarine and of the People. I am Isaril of the Forest People. We Serve Rillifane Rallathil. Also, Solonor Thelandira, Silvanus, the Balance." He places one fist against his chest with the other hand raised in a strange gesture and gives two more sharp, quick bows.

"Na-Dar.. This may be it. They are City Human High Borns, yes. I have to speak tried with them. I must talk with a Mage Sister first...Madge-Sister...Midge-Saster...Illintar said I can be able to speak to one. By accessing help from the City Watchers. City Dwellers have complicated social rituals. It is more difficult a Highsummer dance."

You can tell from the Sylvan's thick accent, trouble pronouncing words and out-of-place prepositions that he is not comfortable speaking in common. The way he speaks in short statements gives his voice a strange, punctuated rhythm.
