"It would be good to have the mage here who can put people to sleep" Goldmoon whispers back. Her own distance weapon is not usable right now, so she stands all the way back to the rear of the group so her light does not give them away once they open the door a bit.

"Let's get 'em" Tas prompts in a low voice. He stands ready to throw a stone when they open the door.

Caramon slowly and carefully takes the knob and turns it, quietly pushing it open enough that those up front can see. Inside the room are at least eight draconians with coppery scales. There is also a young, male elf whose wrists are shackled together. It is none other than Gilthanas Kanan!

"You've got an appointment with Lord Verminaard, your majesty," a nearby draconian says, spatting out those last two words with derision and sarcasm. "I'm sure the two of you will have plenty to talk about."

"You may as well kill me now," Gilthanas says, proud and defiant. "I will tell your master nothing."

"Oh, you'll die alright. It's just a matter of whether it'll be fast or slow. You know, I hear the lord's dragon has a real taste for elves. Especially ones that have been flame-broiled, haha!" another dragonman taunts.

"Take him away," says the first one, gesturing to the door opposite the one the party is listening through.

After waiting a bit for the melee guys to enter, the Ranger enters and sprints towards the far door, bow at the ready, no draconian will escape this room.

"Gil-" Laurana almost screams out loud, instead she holds her tongue, a readies her bow, moving inside the room she aims the arrows at the creature approaching her brother.

"Stop them.." She cries after her arrows fly.

(Please roll for me, plus can't see the map, aiming at the creature closest to Gilthanas)

When the door slams open and people start rushing in, the draconians are completely caught by surprise. "What the--?!" the leader demands. Gilthanas, who had perhaps been waiting for such an opportunity, immediately hurries to the southeastern corner of the room. He remembers well the last time he was 'rescued' by this group from kapaks, and does not want to end up covered in acidic burns again.

Riverwind sprints across the room, reaching the door on the opposite side. Normally, such a reckless move would have earned him a number of wounds, but the draconians are too stunned to even raise a sword to stop the ranger.

Eben comes in next, stepping away from the door so as to not block it. He attacks another draconian with the flat of his blade, but the creature has the presence of mind to dodge. "Watch out!" Eben warns. "They melt into acid if they die!"

Sturm salutes his stunned opponent and then quickly attacks with Brightblade, slashing across the creature's chest. Although greviously wounded, the draconian is not out of the fight yet. "To arms, take them all!" the commander shouts, drawing his blade. There is no time to coat their swords with their venom, though.

Tika moves in and engages a different draconian. Swinging the legendary elven blade at her opponent like a club, she smacks him in the head with such force that the kapak immediately drops to the ground like a sack of bricks, never even getting the chance to draw his sword. "Wow, this thing is great!" she exclaims.

Laurana steps inside and fires a single arrow at the leader, which grazes his right arm.

Caramon moves in next, heading up to block the northern door and to aid Tika. But the waitress has already brought down her opponent, to his surprise. Instead, he just stands by the door, ready to stop anyone from leaving.

Goldmoon steps forward, her light not necessary in this room, as it is already well lit from a number of torches on the walls. She looks inside the room to check out the situation. So far nobody has been hurt, but only one kapak has been taken down. There are seven remaining to go.

Finally, Tasslehoff slings a single stone at the draconian next to the one fighting Sturm through the doorway, smacking him in the chest and popping a scale loose in the process.

Goldmoon stands at the doorway, watching events unfold. Gilthanas does likewise from the southeastern corner of the room.

Two of the kapaks, seeing an elf maiden archer standing in the open with no cover or protection, rush toward her and begin stabbing at will. Luckily, the former princess is nimble enough to evade their blows, save for a cut she takes across the cheek. As the kapaks had no time to lick their blades beforehand, the simple cut thankfully does not bring her down this time.

Switching tactics, Sturm decides to follow Tika's and Eben's lead, and swing with the flat of his blade. However, his opponent was already grievously wounded from Brightblade's last attack. What was meant to be a non-lethal blow still kills him, and he splatters on the ground, his acidic remains chewing at Sturm's and Tika's feet.

Magpie steps inside the room and stands in the safe area behind Laurana. She fires her last 'nice rock' from her sling, leaving her without ammunition. However, the stone smacks her target right in the chest, causing him to curse from the pain.

Caramon dutifully remains at the north door, guarding it from any kapaks who try to breach it.

Another draconian approaches Tika and attacks. She deflects the blow with her own sword, then attempts to knock this one out like the previous one. However, Wyrmslayer can sense the foul creature's draconic blood, and does not hold back. She accidentally kills the kapak with the blow to the head, forming another puddle of acid on the ground. This acid causes the unconscious kapak she knocked out earlier to also die, turning into yet another puddle. This leaves Tika severely wounded and a massive pool of acid in the north side of the room.

Two kapaks rush Riverwind, one getting in a stab with his blade against the ranger. Meanwhile, Eben and his opponent exchange blows. He smacks the draconian with the flat of his blade, but the kapak fails to retaliate.

Riverwind and Laurana both fire their bows at the draconians that are in melee with them and Tasslehoff steps inside and moves to the corner. He loads up a stone in his hoopak, but finds his target has already melted.

Sturm attempts to attack Kapak 01 with the flat of Brightblade, but he is already dead.
Laurana fires another sheaf arrow from her short bow at Kapak 07 (1d20+3): 15, hit for (1d8): 1 damage.
Riverwind fires another sheaf arrow from his short bow at Kapak 05 (1d20+5): 17 for (1d8): 3 damage.

(OOC: For future reference, Jerrard, a non-lethal attack with the flat of a blade incurs a -4 penalty to hit, not a -3. I've modified the roll you made to take that into account.

Also, wow, I think Wyrmslayer is a little too strong when trying to merely subdue enemies! Better have Tika switch to the frying pan next round!
