Re: CH. 14: Beyond the Veil
"Brock, get out of the room," Jocelyn says as she wipes some blood from her lip. Quickly, she makes a run for the northeast corner of the room in hopes of finding the hammer that they were told about.
Re: CH. 14: Beyond the Veil
Ouragana now checks the ends of the chains holding the planetar. Are they fixed to the walls? She uses a cantrip to see if they are held in place by magic.
There's more to me than meets the eye...
Re: CH. 14: Beyond the Veil
Seeing Jocelyn bleed terrifies Baeros. He tries even harder to push his way through the web. "Jocelyn! Stay away from his reach!" he bellows.
Re: CH. 14: Beyond the Veil
"He's almost free!" warns Gallath, nocking an acid arrow in anticipation of the kyton escaping the webbing. Thaddeus, likewise, readies his wand again.
Baeros, likewise, continues to try and escape. It looks like he and the kyton will probably get out of the webbing at around the same time.
Drav shoves past Val to see what she is looking at so intently. He steps over the broken glass, his boots protecting him from cuts, and picks something up. "I found it!" he announces. "The king plug!"
After using a cantrip to change the colors of his clothes, Granite returns to the lab, largely unnoticed by all.
Ouragana studies the chains further. Some are attached to the wall, which is what is keeping her in an upright position. They are not attached magically--were that the case, she would have fallen as soon as the Dispel Magic was cast. Cutting through the chains isn't really an option, but eating through them with acid is one option. It might be possible for someone of sufficient strength to rip the chains out of the walls, too.
Meanwhile, the chains continue to attack Brock and Jocelyn. The dwarf takes a minor hit, leaving a nasty bruise on his face. Jocelyn turns and heads north, and Brock calls after her, too slow to follow. A chain strikes her hard in the gut, but she keeps moving. However, having to navigate all of these chains slows her down, and she doesn't reach the spot where she sensed the magical aura. If only she weren't so weighed down!

Re: CH. 14: Beyond the Veil
"Then take it, and plug it into the wall," Jocelyn calls out to Drav. She wasn't looking too good at this point, but she continues pushing through the chains to get to the other object that she found so she can pick it up.
Re: CH. 14: Beyond the Veil
"I have that spell we discussed," Thaddeus calls out. "But...it looks rather dangerous to go in there right now." Thaddeus is still terribly burned from that trap on the front door and one hit from one of the writhing chains would surely end him if he dared stepped within range.Ouragana wrote:"Does anyone have acid to melt these chains?"
Re: CH. 14: Beyond the Veil
Jocelyn makes it to the corner of the room and sees it shining softly in the darkness--a beautiful hammer of gold and steel, inlaid with sapphires.
Picking it up off of the ground, she feels a surge of power in her body. It feels like the same power that she felt when trying to turn the kyton, but it's not as fleeting and remains in her as long as she holds the hammer.
"Pastor, wait!" calls Brock, trying to follow her but getting tangled up in the chains.
Val, apparently not paying the slightest bit of attention of what is happening around her, fails to notice that Drav has already picked up the white item she saw--the King's Plug. It's just as well, as she has no footwear and she would have just sliced open her feet on the broken glass. Drav tosses the plug to Val. "Here, catch!"
Meanwhile, the kyton is nearly free of the webbing. Chains lash out at Brock and at Val, but neither make contact.

"There are the acid arrows that melted the wall in the trolls room!" Baeros says to Ouragana. Feeling he is moments from breaking free Baeros readies himself to fight the kyton and shouts, "Brock! Get ready to guard Jocelyn flank! I'll guard her other side!"

Re: CH. 14: Beyond the Veil
Once Jocelyn has the hammer in her hands, she turns to face the kyton that had been trying to follow her anyway. "This is ending," she says. She purposely waits for the kyton to be free of the web before she attacks it.
Re: CH. 14: Beyond the Veil
Seeing Jocelyn, the subject of his affection, bravely stands against the fiend something stirs in Baeros heart. Is it pride or fear? But he have no time to contemplate on that and he cries out "Jocelyn! No! You are badly wounded! Just stay away from his reach! I'll protect you in a minute!" and doubly strains his muscles to get free of the web and get between the demon and her.
Re: CH. 14: Beyond the Veil
"We need the rest of the plugs!" Dahn exclaims. Quickly realizing that he isn't being very stealthy by shouting, he runs to the doorway, taking cover.
I don't blow minds, I blast brains.
Re: CH. 14: Beyond the Veil
Ouragana looks vor Drav who had the acid in his quiver. Seeing he is at the other end of the room, she busies herself with the chains holding the planetar. Maybe she can loosen them them to make her breathing easier, or support her? She also continues to talk to her in all the languages she knows, giving a messeage of reassurance.
There's more to me than meets the eye...
Re: CH. 14: Beyond the Veil
Drav moves around the webbing, readying his flame sword for the kyton's release. Likewise, Gallath readies an acid arrow. Granite moves to the doorway, outside of the range of the chains' control. Jocelyn, empowered by the hammer, moves toward the kyton, Brock in tow trying to protect her.
Ouragana tugs and pulls at the chains, loosening them enough to free the unconscious celestial. She clatters to the ground in a bloody heap, unmoving.
Baeros and the kyton both rip themselves free of Ouragana's webbing. The chains in the area whip about triumphantly, smacking both Brock in the chin and Val in the stomach.
