The Brink [of Madness] Act 1, Scene 1

A classic 2e Puzzle dungeon for High Level characters
Beware, this one is substantially longer and (IMHO) even harder than the legendary Tomb of Horrors!

Axid remarks "Great another door and another pit, what could go wrong?" He pulls out some chalk and marks the floor 'pit at other end' and goes over to the ladder and marks on floor 'up to troll hole".

"Maybe there are more bodies down the pit.,," Ke'Sha ponders loudly and grinning around.

Jack cautiously examines the path forward as he moves to the edge of the pit; finding no traps he continues. Bracing himself near the wall he peers over the edge, then leans down to gaze even farther below; almost as if he is trying to look under the floor itself. Pulling himself back up he addresses the others. Well... It looks like there is a hidden room beneath this one! There is a gigantic statue of a man that must be 25 feet tall! The room itself looks like it is about 30 feet deep and the same footprint as this one; minus the pit. The statue is carved as if it is pressing against the wall, and there are scars across the back like it has been whipped...

Ke'Sha has Gur examine the area above and below for any signs of magic. The door across the pit definitely has some sort of magical Alteration magic; mostly likely to fortify the door itself in some way.

Axid returns from the marking and hears the description of the room. "How do we want to go about exploring this room or the pit?"

"We could lower someone down, with a rope. after we check the edges and this room first." Jack realizes he probably just volunteered himself for that.

"I can cast Fly, for the lucky scouting individual." Jag will offer. "I will start coming down to the first room."

"I'll go near Jack. Mind you, my higher senses make keep you alive, or dead or undead. As you wish." He shows his perfect teeth.

Allikhain and Landro follow down the ladder into the wider room just outside where the others are; the giant-kin managing to squeeze through the small hatch opening. He ties one end of a rope to the center of one of the iron bars and braces across the doorway. He passes the other end of the secured rope to Jack and stays nearby in case something goes amiss.

When Jack is sure the top room is safe Jag will cast Fly on him.

"Thanks! I better use this rope too, just in case." He will then lower himself down to the bottom of the statue chamber.

Ke'Sha uses the rope right after jack while Gur flies nearby invisible. When they get to the ground Gur settles on Ke'Sha's shoulder.
"Well, well, what have we got here?" Ke'Sha appriciates the statue ahead. "These lashes on his back probably sent a message to the worshipers of the snake goddling, 'Don't mess with your master, ehe!'" he chuckles.

Jag pulls a feather from his pouch and weaves it in wide intertwining circles around Jack's shoulders, babbling on in a magical language. Gradually a weightlessness settles on the rogue and he finds he can control his movement through the air as easily as walking!

Cruising through the empty air, Jack lays one hand on the rope for security and descends into the room below. He finds it fairly featureless, aside from the prodigious statue pressing against the wall. Gur follows invisibly behind Jack, and Ke'Sha after, using the rope.

[1d6+12]=2+12=14

Flying close to the floor, but not touch it, he will inspect a direct path to the statue.

"Follow me, please."

"Could you check the floor for traps? I can't fly."
While waiting to make sure that the floor is safe, Ke'Sha swings at the end of the rope, watching through Gur's eyes that flies around and close to the statue, searching for anything that might suggest useful. "This is quiet unusual place and position to put a statue..." he remarks.

================================================================================
(OOC: If Danger sense is not triggered and Jack gives green light for the floor, Ke'Sha will follow.)

Since everyone dropped down into the pit Axid will remain at the edge of the pit just in case to provide a path of rescue or alarm. "I sure hope there are no fireball traps down there. It would make for a smelly barbecue."
