The Brink [of Madness] Act 1, Scene 1

A classic 2e Puzzle dungeon for High Level characters
Beware, this one is substantially longer and (IMHO) even harder than the legendary Tomb of Horrors!

"Well?" Ke'Sha folds his hands and looks at Axid superciliously. "Maybe you should check the other hatch we haven't explored yet as well."

"Well" mimicking Ke$ha's tone, "there are living creatures down there." I can't make out what they are but my guess is they would benefit from a liberal dose of fireball. You do like your meat cooked, correct? Do unto others before they do unto you and all that."

"No one tried to cook me... yet. Too much of a trouble for too little meat. And it would probably be bitter." Ke'Sha says absentmindedly. "Check the last hatch as well for living creatures." *pause* "Hmm.. your USEFUL talent." *pause* "Err.. please?" Ke'Sha smiles sheepishly to Axid and flashes looks at the other to verify his actions are social enough.

"You have the honor of opening the hatch and I shall ascertain the presence of living things." Findalsip replies in a feigned posh accent.

Ke'Sha examines the opening to the last hatch that was not opened yet. Is he senses any danger or detects magic by the bond he has with his abyssal companion, he will alert the others, otherwise, "I see nothing suspicious, but Jack, can you check for traps?"

Jag watches from a distance.

Quietly over the telepathic link, then increasingly louder.

How long on this longest day
'Til we finally make it through
How long on this longest day
'Til we finally make it through
How long on this longest day
'Til we finally make it through
How long on this longest day
'Til we finally make it through

Jag clears his throat.

"Sorry about that. Just thinking of my favorite Bard."

"Wow! You have * S U C H * a taste! Why don't you climb down this hatch while Axid and Jack goes down the other. It will cut your waiting by half!" Ke'Sha raises his eyebrows in anticipation.

"You might enjoy this part."

The rising dead, faces bloated torn
They are relieved, the living wait their turn
Your number's up, the bullet's got your name
You still go on, to hell and back again
Valhalla waits, valkyries rise and fall
The warrior tombs, lie open for us all
A ghostly hand reaches through the veil
Blood and sand, we will prevail

Ke'Sha claps slowly. "Very amusing. Gur, what do you think of this... performance?", after a moment the Quasit answers to Ke'Sha mentally, "I haven't thought they will recruit a clown to save Sorril." Ke'Sha clears his throat and translates, "Gur approves your singing abilities. It seems you missed your destiny. Now you can climb down the hatch knowing you fulfilled your potential."

===================================================================
(OOC: Styrius, how would you like to proceed the investigation? Are you waiting for Jack to open hatch C and check it or do you want to go down hatch D?
If we wait for Jack, tristen, maybe you want to play him?

"After pondering there seems to be possibly three possible creatures down this hatch. If you will open the last hatch I will scan it." he remarks to Ke$ha.

Jack reminds Ke'Sha he had checked all the lids earlier for traps and found none. Additionally none of Ke'Sha's senses detect any hazard in simply opening the last one.

Seeing none is willing to do anything beside talking, Ke'Sha mentally commands Rror to open the last hatch. Rror obeys with no questioning, 'As all these living bags of meat around here should have' Ke'Sha thinks to himself, and stands near the opening looking forward staring at nothing.
"Right, Axid, please check for life down there as well."

Axid looks at Ke$ha and walks over to the hatch and continues with scanning.
