Act 2 Scene 5: "Cavern of the Crown of Souls" (Game Thread)

When folks move into the upper caves Jerry stays near Merrick somewhere near the middle of the group.

Mira edges past the gap to investigate. A foul and evil looking statue of an old hag stands at the end of this passage. She is holding a human skull in her left hand that looks quite real. Deep in its blackened eyesockets are tiny flickers of light. There appears to be no natural explanation for the strange phenomenon. Mira cannot escape the feeling that there is more to this statue than it appears. The old crone's right hand is tightly clasped around a gnarled walking stick. Its many grooves and curves are reminiscent of the shriveled flesh of a mummy.

[Nocturno]

Pyros hops over to the statue, and compares his leg to the staff.

[Jenara]

Mira enters examing the statue, keeping a spell at the ready as she does so, taking a moment to examine the skull.

[TristenC]

Pyros hobbles forward and Visually Compares his leg to the staff in the statue's hand. The withering effect makes the texture of the two nearly identical. In fact he recalls that the staff the real hag used to strike him with this affliction looked the same; probably something to do with the magic used to create it.

Mira moves forward to inspect the skull and it becomes clear that it is designed to open like a small container

[Jenara]

"Thats a little strange." using a dagger Mira feels for a join, if she finds one she forces it open, keeping her distance incase it does something crazy like explode!

[Nocturno]

If Pyros sees her try to stick the dagger in before she does so.

"Wait! Let me have a quick look." He will inspect for traps.

[Jerrard]

Karl remains with Tarlyn, keeping near her with his blade drawn to protect her.

[TristenC]

Mira finds a catch and opens the skull just as Pyros approaches to inspect the statue. The lid springs open and a tiny bat flies up into Mira's face before winging its way towards the exit. Inside the now open skull lies a skeleton key carved of bone...

[Jenara]

Shifting to avoid the bat she reaches inside, shaking her head as she remembers the locks on Tarlyns limbs.. "I bet this opened those damn locks" she comments, slipping the key into her pouch.

[Nocturno]

Pyros watches the Bat as it flies away.

"With everything we have found. I was worried you might lose your hand!"

[Jenara]

"You know I was too but I got excited, finally a break." she giggles, giving Pyros a little hug.

[TristenC]

Good find, maybe it will be useful to us farther on as well. Adrestia offers.

The dead end would make it seem that our young master Pyros has found the only obvious means of continuing... Artanis adds

Jerry says, "Anyone know what's going on up ahead? It's been awefully quiet."

Adrestia steps back to tell the rest of the groip what they found
