Re: Baldurs Gates
No multiplayer in Planescape: Torment, but I don't know about the "spiritual sequel," Torment: Tides of Numenara. Coming out in 2016... if they don't postpone the release again...

Re: Role-playing and backstory- Tips, advice, and other idea
I say, it all depends on the world. Some motives aren't viable in some worlds but might be in others. For example, if a country is being ravaged by an army of orcs, then revenge or patriotism is likely to be an important motive for a lot of people, and many might even be entitled to a Racial enemy p...

Re: Is there Latin language scholar in the house?
Maybe this will help you: in the days of the Roman Empire, "rex" was the word Romans used for monarchs of outlying countries, whom they considered barbarians, and for their own monarchs from before the republic. They hated the idea of a hereditary ruler lording it over them again, and Caes...

Re: Thinking of running something experimental
All right! :) Meanwhile a couple more features I want in it: Time compression. The players can vote to advance time. The GM will oblige: "six months pass" (or equivalent). Everyone can state what they wish to do, such as earn money in ways currently available or practice to acquire some sk...

Re: Thinking of running something experimental
All right. Yay, disastrous! You know, it's like with scientists when their test tubes start billowing green smoke instead of purple, or a garage band plays out someone's idea and it goes wrong. Whatever, it's still useful.

Thinking of running something experimental
Tolkien wrote somewhere: it's easy to make up a world where the sun is green, it's more difficult to come up with one where a green sun makes sense. Anything new is a challenge, but let's try and see what we can do, eh? The campaign I have in mind may have to be played on some other site, or perhaps...

Re: Is anyone running an original setting?
There are original elements in both. Especially the thing with teleporting inside people's cars. There is some originality everywhere. And influences too. But what I had in mind is something like "The Dragons of Pern," where it's about telepathic bonding with dragons and life-destroying Th...

Is anyone running an original setting?
These forums are for AD&D, so there is Dragonlance here, Ravenloft and other official settings. Also some unofficial modifications. But I know people here have played elsewhere and with different rules, so you may know an answer to this: do you know anyone running a game, with any rules system, ...

I'm offended that you don't. Moving on. I solemnly swear not to joke at the expense of anyone here. I also welcome any suggestions for replacement joking, such as puns, anecdotes about trees and practical fun with rubber duckies. If you had refrained from making these type of snide remarks t...

Re: Demiplane of Dread OOC Chat
I'm not looking to offend anyone, long live the bard. But let's be realistic, that class isn't supposed to be a combat machine. The classes all have different strengths, so if a rouge survives a tough fight, it's just luck. My paladin is yet to be tested, but I didn't roll him up with exceptional st...

Re: What I'm looking for and why
Jenara will soon transport this thread to the Tavern (the one in Harmony, I'm sure) if we continue to discuss gameplay. I'll just agree with you on Haste. But I think I've worked out what I'm looking for with this thread, with everyone's help. It's that model where you start out more or less blank a...
